Default Over 30...and confused..

So I like to go out...but the clubs and lounges tend to be packed with 20 something's...are too crowded and tend to have bad music. I get hit on by these children. I bought a sexy going out dress..I get it and it fits everywhere else but it's too damn short...I'm gonna be 34 this year...I just can't. I'm looking around for clothes and they are trashy...short and low cut at the same time. That prompted me to do an Internet search on the subject...so I found articles talking about all the stuff a person should stop doing when they hit 30. No more low rise jeans ( which I live in)...no more bikinis ( I just had one on last weekend) I feel lost. I don't want to seem like I am trying too hard to be young...but damn!
Any thoughts. I can't be the only one.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free,maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

Sorry but that's stupid (not you those rules). I'm sure there are lots of higher end lounges and clubs that appeals to your age group. I'm 27 ad still do that stuff. I plan on doing it for as long as it suits me.

seriously...

wear what you want.

just make sure it fits and you're comfortable in it and you're not showing anything you don't want showing!

Be comfortable. Whatever it is you do and wear and say... be comfortable and confident that it is you. Don't fall into trends, rules or stereotypes.

(unless that is what you really want...)

I do wear what I want...but it's just hard to find a happy medium that is still sexy but not slutty...and not boring and prudish.

you should see the top i'm planning to wear to a party - at a bar - that my friends are dragging me to in 10 days' time. it's probably on the edge of sexy since i'm so busty, but if the weather remains like this, my Jessica Simpson lace camisole is going out on the town.

i have *killer* red and white rhinestone earrings too!

eta. the 4-inch peep-toe platform leopard pumps are going to the party, too...

Exactly. I am 37 and was at the beach in a bikini yesterday. I'm of the opinion that anything goes at the beach! I certainly don't care what other people wear at the beach. It's hot, sandy, and salty - wear whatever makes you comfortable!

And you can definitely find sexy, going-out clothes that aren't too revealing. My usual uniform is a nice top, some dark-wash jeans, and high-heeled sandals (or boots in the cooler months). That's on the odd occasion I actually go out somewhere nice

@divegirl
That's usually my uniform too....heels..a tank top or some other cute top, dark jeans. I was only looking for a dress because 1) I could probably use more dresses and 2) my cousin wanted to go to this fancy place and I needed one.

Where do you live? Are there not bars/clubs that have an older crowd? I'm 33 and my age range and older have many places to go to in Atlanta. In fact sometimes some places are too 'old' for me. As far as sexy dresses, I see many that are not too short(because I'm looking for the short ones!).

As far as what to wear, whatever you feel good in. I wear whatever, and usually the trendy stuff. I think those rules are crazy, especially the bikini one, i dont ever see myself stop wearing bikinis until my body gets too out of shape and that has nothing to do with age.

If you're going to a place packed with 20-somethings, you're going to get hit on by 20-somethings. I don't know if the way you're dressed will change that.

You're going to the wrong places, and shopping at the wrong stores. That's all there is to it.

Until you find a place that fits your tastes and demographics, try a new place every single time you go out. Pass up anyplace with a line, a cover charge, or cheap drink specials.

Ah, OK. Instead of doing internet searches for appropriate clothing for 30-somethings, you can do searches for bars and clubs that are popular with the age group. We have a publication where I live that does an annual "Best of" issue, and they just came out with this year's. It has categories for "Best Singles Scene, 20-something," "...30-something," and "...40-something." I totally intend to check out the 30-something one! I'm sure there's something like that for Philly.

@who me,
That makes sense. I guess I gotta try a lot of new stuff. I was sheltered a lot and didn't start going out and being social till I was in my late 20's. The friends I made were younger and because I had never been part of that scene before I was just thrilled to be social. Now that it's been a few years...I am longing for a more sophisticated crowd. So far I'm just doing Internet searches to find reviews of places to see where I might wanna try

Me neither! I just meant that, if she's going to get hit on, it's going to be by a 20-something.

I'm with this.

My friends who are 34 (as am I) and still frequent clubs and bars get a raised eyebrow from me.
