It's not bad. Not pleasant but not painful. Much less than a contraction. I had my Paragard inserted 4 months post partum and didn't feel a thing. 12 yrs later, had Mirena inserted. My dr inserts it while you're on your period so the cervix is more open. Take some advil or naprosyn before hand, listen to some calming music, meditate, something to relax you and it'll be over in minutes. For me, it felt like a big internal pinch.

What does it feel like to have the mirena taken out?? I have one and love it. Been in for 2 years. Putting it in was like one menstrual cramp. The take out? Dunno.

Taking out is less painful. My Paragard was removed then the dr had to reseat the Mirena... so it was removed once. Not bad.. slight pinch. less so than insertion.

Just got my paragard taken out...apparently I have fibroids and a cyst. So Gyno told me I should use hormone birth control. Have to get surgery for cyst...he have me Nuva ring for now...and said I don't have to have a period at all...so if this is pretty effective...I may stick with that

I have fibroids as well but was able to get mirena. What I couldn't get was Essure (permanent blocking of the fallopian tubes). It was too big of a risk.

I have to get surgery for the cyst...they're not sure if they gotta take out the fibroids or not. I got Nuva ring, so we'll are how that goes. I may just make it so I only get a period like every 3 months or so...just to make sure I'm not preggers.

Considering the fibroids make u bleed heavier...and the paragard makes u bleed heavier...that's not the option for me. If the NuvaRing works, doesn't slip out and he can't feel it, I'll keep that in just cause i can plan when or if I want my period

I'm glad u found something that works. I had a cyst when I first got my IUD. My doctor gave me a round of birth control pills and it shrinked and went away. I haven't had any issues since with cysts.

I had Paragard placed in April or May and every month is touch and go for me.

The insertion was pretty painful (I've also never had a child or been pregnant) and the doctor told me that it's the "girl's version of being kicked in the junk". It's the same type of bodily reaction, I guess.

I have also experienced the worse cramps and MUCH heavier periods. Sometimes during sex, it feels like maybe he hits it a little so we have to slow down or change position.

I have also noticed that my sex drive has dropped dramatically (my poor SO!) and most of the time, I do it for him rather than wanting it myself. And I feel kinda bad that I'm not more into it.

Does anyone think that the Vitamin E pills would help with this or is that only to lessen the amount of bleeding? I already take a multivitamin and I take iron pills during my period due to the extra bleeding. I don't want to take them all the time unless it would help with some of these other side effects.

Why would vitamin E increase your sex drive? I also didn't know it lessens bleeding during TOM, really? That seems odd.

Paragard is notorious for making periods MORE HORRID. Which is why I chose the Mirena. I'm actually surprised that you have a lower sex drive since the Paragard is hormone free.

I had a lower (well non existent) sex drive when I used the ring and I was crazy on it. I don't have any problems with Mirena at all. I'm not more emotional and crazy, my sex drive is good (high even) and I have very few periods which last 1 day!

Someone mentioned above that taking the Vitamin E shortened the length of time...I was just wondering if it also might affect the sex drive...

Oh I see.

Ok, who mentioned this, please explain why Vit E would decrease TOM?

I recently got the paragard removed, and I'm noticing a difference! Periods 1-2 days shorter and longer monthly cycles (32 days vs. 26-28 ). I guess it really can cause more frequent/heavier periods.

Yes, that's one thing the gyn told me about the paragard. I did not want a monster of a period. I already didn't like my easier than most TOM, I did not want to make it worse. It seemed that it was a guarantee that with paragard, it would get worse not better/stay the same. I was not willing to risk it.

You can take NuvaRing out for sex and then just put it back in afterwards. I used it while I had my Paragard trying to stop my periods. Didn't work for me. I put a new ring in every 3 weeks.

Vitamin E found to reduce period pain

When taking Vitamin E, look for the gamma form, mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols

Yeah...so far sex works fine with the ring. But I am having some random spotting...how long will that go on?

Also my sex drive had gotten lower with paraguard but I think it was cause of the anemia cause by the periods...so with no paragard...plus iron pills I think it's helping.

I'm worried about the cyst tho....I can feel it...it must be huge! It's on my left side and the left side of my belly sticks out more

So I had the IUD taken out...I got fibroids and a large benign cyst on my ovary...I get laparoscopic surgery to get the cyst removed. Dr put me on NuvaRing so far..it's made me a bit itchy...and also I'm spotting all the time. Dr told me to give it 2 months...saying the fibroids cause the heavy bleeding so they are probably causing my spotting. I can get those removed too but it will be full surgery so I will need to spend a night in the hospital. I'm afraid that if I don't get them out...and hormone birth control I use will cause this awful sorting all the time...

So what do u guys think?
