Duvets

When we got our king sized bed, I couldn't find a bedding set that I liked. So I ended up getting an inexpensive quilt from Target, "just to hold me over" until I could get something. Well, 5 years later, that quilt is still on my bed. I'm just having the darndest time finding something that suits me, and I'm ready to have a bedroom that looks more like a master bedroom than a blah guest room. I know I'm picky, but really, this is ridiculous. My latest train of thought is a duvet and cover. Then in the warm weather I could just use the cover on the bed, and in the cold weather, I could insert the duvet and be warm.

Thoughts from anyone with duvets? Do you use the clips on the corners to keep it in place. Do you like it better than a traditional comforter? Any stores or websites that you love with beautiful ones to choose from?

Sorry I am hogging your threads

I use the clips in the corners so the comforter does not slide around in the duvet. We have a queen sized bed but we have a king sized comforter. I love my comforter and I love that I can change the look of the bedroom with the duvet. I keep the bed skirt white all the time though. I have 4-5 duvet covers. I am in the market for a new comforter though. The one that B bought me for my full sized bed probably over 9 years ago has held up better than the one I bought for the new bed when we moved 6 years ago.

I got a lot of mine at Pottery Barn-not cheap but they have held up REALLY well! Lately I have not seen anything from them that I have loved though.

Ok I think I am done rambling now.

I use a duvet on all our beds and no top sheet. I have several that I love. I use down in the colder months and a light fake down on the warmer months. I have some lovery duvet covers that were very pricey, but I get the kids at Ikea. Plus it's easier for the kids to make their beds. I never use the clips but my sister does.
xcptnl...I love that you're "hogging" my threads! LOL! I need all the help I can get!

For both you and Wiregirl: do you use any shams or throw pillows? If you do, do you have generic ones that go with all of the duvets, or have you bought matching ones for each duvet? I'm sorry I'm so full of piddly-arse questions, but I can't help it!

When I bought mine Pottery Barn had (and they still do) have shams in all kinds of different colors-the fabric is kind of velvet like-but not outlandish. Here they are:

So I have 2-3 of those in different colors and because I like certain colors some of them can be used with different duvets. I need to buy some throw pillows but because I do change out the duvet covers I am unsure what to do there because I do not want to have a stockpile of different throw pillows. I do have some 'cheaper' quilts that I have picked up along the way and I will fold those and put them at the bottom of the bed for some contrast. Another place that has nice duvets is LL Bean. I also check out overstock.com occasionally.

Hmmmm...I just saw some duvets I liked while searching for the shams. Not good, not good at all
