Worst opening ceremony EVER. All I could think about was Beijing.

And don't get me started on the giant Voldemort and thousands of Marry Poppins

first of all, you never answered my question about where you learned to do makeup.

second, you know....you can have a beautiful child and a smart child and an average child and a "special" child. you love them all right? so, if opening ceremonies were children in comparison to china (the beautiful intelligent child) last night was the special child's version. although, i really liked the lighting of all the torch petals.

as usual i really enjoyed seeing the athletes walk in. everyone is so beautiful and different looking.

did anyone notice how americans were all filming. i felt we were the most self-absorbed looking country. i'm off to see if anyone else noticed this....

i did think matt lauer was an idiot when uganda came out and he quoted someone with one breath who said the country was beautiful/lush/a pearl then in the next breath he said that that person must not have ever met idi amin. (who asked you to interject your own opinion? just continue to read off the teleprompter!)

i spent many of my birthdays in my late teens and early 20s going to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines.

so... Day 1 - how about that men's cycling road race??? i feel bad for the British fans since they were sure they had a good chance for a medal but how about that Kazakh cyclist getting gold 12 years after his silver in Sydney????

As a Brit, I can honestly say that the opening ceremony was just pitiful. Even Her Majesty wasn't impressed! There were some FINE men on the USA team though! Jheez!

Does anyone know why Mitt Romney was there and why he got special treatment (sitting w/ the royals and etc)? It's really bothering me.

Anyhoo, I can't wait for gymnastics, swimming, track and field, and volleyball!

the heads of local organizing committees of past games, both winter and summer, were invited to attend. the former Premier of our province of British Columbia was there, too, for his role in the Vancouver games.

I kind of liked the ceremony. Some parts of it were great, imo.

I think the opening ceremony was good but way too much going on for the people actually there watching, I'm not sure I'd have been able to make sense of it if I wasn't watching on TV. No-one did it better than Sydney imo (and I'm a Brit).
Queenie looked mightily underwhelmed and her opening "speech" was awful (tho' not a lot she could say I suppose). I think after all the enthusiasm and adulation she's got from everyone for her jubilee this year she could have at least made an effort to look a bit more interested in everyone else.
Paul McCartney sounded dire.
Anyhoo, looking forward to the tennis, swimming, diving and athletics though I'll probably watch all sorts of things I don't usually have any interest in. Look out for a female rower called Hannah Davis, she has amazing blonde curls and her dad is a doctor where I work.

I'm looking forward to gymnastics and diving. I'm always impressed by those athletes because I'd be terrified to try either sport.

IDK if this was meant to be sarcastic or not, but this is a hilarious comparison.

We're very self-absorbed. I noticed this when I lived in Europe. I can always tells who was American because they were glued to their electronics and ignored everyone around them LOL.

I know! Would it hurt for her to crack a smile or two?

I liked her hat, though. (or was that a fascinator? Does the queen wear them, or only hats?
