Not wanting to be skinny
So, I lost almost 30 lbs. A friend congratulated me on my weight loss recently, and then asked how much more I wanted to lose. I said "none". She looked at me kind of strange, as if to say, you ought to lose more. We quickly changed the subject.
I'm right at the border of "normal weight" and "overweight" by the BMI standard (5'4", 145 or so). I'm glad that I lost the weight, but I like having my curves. I am also tired of watching what I eat so closely.
Does anyone else feel this way?

I was underweight for the first 33 years of my life. I had no curves at all and looked sickly. I wasn't sick; I didn't have an eating disorder; I had a metabolism that would not settle down. Well, it has now. I am a normal weight and don't think of myself as skinny. I think I look so much better now! There is nothing wrong with where you are weight-wise as long as you are healthy and active. Look at photos of Marilyn Monroe. She would be considered too heavy in Hollywood now. But she was stunning and sexy. And in my opinion, curvy women are sexier. Enjoy being the way you want to be. Actual skinny is not sexy. IMO.

I'm not particularly partial to the "skinny look". People base to much nonsense on these actresses in Hollywood concerning how they should look. I feel like whatever size you are.. do the best you can to be healthy and take care of yourself. So of course that means keeping yourself from being tremendously overweight. We know excess weight can cause a bevy of problems...but that doesn't mean one needs to be "skinny". There are plenty of people that are "skinny" and very unhealthy..poor nutrition not enough movement..etc.

Lose until you feel comfortable and healthy, whatever that may be. Congratulations on your weight loss!

I think healthy and feeling good is sexy, whether that's super thin because of a high metabolism but healthy and fit or curvy and healthy.
I don't care what your BMI is, since it's a general rule of thumb based upon average everything. Health-wise, how are you? Feeling and looking good, numbers good in tests? Then being on the border of healthy vs. overweight according to BMI doesn't matter.
I don't like some of the thin-hate being hinted at by some of the other posts in this thread, but the OP didn't do that - I think loving where you are and staying healthy, not yo-yoing is the best thing you can do for yourself if you're already at a healthy weight. It's an individual decision and yes some people think the ideal should look Hollywood thin, but the fact is those who age beautifully and naturally aren't that thin, which is probably part of why so many in Hollywood get surgeries!

Come on NetG..that's not fair. I don't like the assumption that just because someone isn't particularly nuts about the skinny look it has to mean there is thin-hate hinting going on. And since you aren't talking about the OP..you'd have to be talking about me and goldencurly since you said "posts". I can't speak for goldencurly..but I don't have any "thin-hate" hinting going on in my post. If I wanted to say I don't like skinny people.. I just would. Personally, I'm not partial to the look but it doesn't mean it's ugly, unattractive, or should be hated on. To me, there aren't too many people looks wise in Hollywood that can compare to Angelina Jolie (IMO) and well she's pretty darn skinny.

No, I don't want to be skinny. But I want to be trim with a lower body fat %.
I agree with the idea that if YOU feel good, and your doctor says your are healthy---then you should not worry for one second what anybody else thinks!
As an aside, what kind of "friend" says that?? How rude!
Agree she was stunning and sexy. But I disagree she would be considered too heavy. I think she would be considered a "curvy" celebrity .... like Sophia Vergara or Kim Kardashian.

Yeah but the whole curvy thing being seriously accepted is a new thing in Hollywood these days. Furthermore, and I mean no disrespect but women that look "exotic" or "ethnic" that are curvy get a pass about being heavier than white women do in society..including Hollywood. White women often get just labeled as fat.
Oh and as a matter of fact.. I was watching this movie show where they discuss a bit about the film before hand, during commericals, and after...and the host said when Monroe was actually considered looking her worse and fat by many in media and Hollywood when she starrred in Some Like It Hot. I was STUNNED because to me she looked incredible in that film. Left me with my mouth wide open because I couldn't understand what they were seeing that I wasn't!

You make a good point.
But, then again, "Hollywood skinny" is a whole different animal that "real world skinny."

Unfortunately you're right. I'm looking at the pics above of Marilyn Monroe and I'm thinking she looks comparable in size to Beyonce. I've never heard people call her or Jennifer Lopez fat, but they are always crapping on Jennifer Love Hewit and she doesn't look anywhere near fat to me!

Oh wow..Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kelly Clarkson, Jessica Simpson, Elisha Cuthbert, and countless others got ripped new ones when they gained some weight. And none of them were obese (I mean Jessica did gain a lot of weight during her pregnancy but they were dogging her about her weight WAY before she even met her current fiance).
Now, I do think sometimes it filters over to other women (like when Tyra Banks said she got dogged because she gained some lbs..given I don't recall to many black people having a fit because she gained weight..so I think this was mainly media people and most of them aren't black). To me, it just seems more evidence supports that white women do catch much more hell on average for some weight gain than other women.

Thanks for the responses.
To clear something up, my friend didn't actually say anything really rude, and I think she was embarrassed when I said I didn't want to lose more weight, though I think she may have been thinking that I could lose a few more.
Marilyn was gorgeous, but she did fluctuate a bit.

I've had the same experience and views. Currently I would like to lose 10 lbs because I have muffin top issues. If I was firm I wouldnt care to lose it. I'm not overly concerned though, I pretty much eat what I want but try to make up for it by eating light for a meal or day or two in between.
I was 10 lbs lighter last summer and my thighs were gone. I didn't like that look at all. I think it was from running..

I'm medium height (5'7"), and a large framed endomorph. I like to weigh 165-175. It sounds huge. Plenty of white women would cringe to weigh that.
I like it, though. I like having some oomph and strength, and I prefer to carry a weight that is more suitable for my frame.
Are there people who think I should drop fifty pounds? Sure! But, too bad. There are plenty of women who do thin well. Not me.

And this is the thing - you look great, you're healthy. It is a very individual thing. I'm definitely more toward the larger frame and heavier because of muscle, so even as I lose the excess fat which isn't affecting my health but is affecting my competitive athletic performances on my horse, I'll never be the skinny type. I think pressure to look that way is bad because of the poor eating habits and lack of health it encourages. However, I think it's totally possible for someone to be very thin and sexy in her own way, too.

Ithink it's possible, too. Frau is quite slim, and I think that she is very pretty. My weight would probably look just as unnatural on her as hers would on me. That's why I dislike many generalized recommendations for weight and such.
While there are obvious extremes, many people can inhabit a healthy area that falls on one side or the other what what is 'good'.
The Hollywood slim ideal, however, is embraced and expected by too many.

I often feel like I'm lucky since I'm Black. I feel as though Black women feel less pressure to be skinny. Actually, Hispanic and Black men prefer women to be "thick" such as: meaty thighs, wide hips, big buttocks, etc. Which is what I look like. Now, my stomach is pretty much flat. I have no desire to make it flatter or be skinny.
If anything, I think being toned is more important than being skinny. I would be upset if I lost fat around my butt (LOL). I like my butt to be meaty and I like being thick. I do love to keep my legs and butt tone (a female friend touched my butt once, she was White and she said she was surprised since it wasn't like fat, but it was hard and full of muscle. I think it's because Black women tend to carry more muscle waist down?).
Anyway. Do I want to be skinny? Nope. I like me as is!
That right there to me is perf. and she's not "skinny". Just very toned

^^I would love to be shaped like that!
The way my body is shaped (like a soup can--no shape, straight up and down) I look best skinny. Since having kids I'm about 25-35 lbs heavier than where I feel like I look best in clothes. Despite that, this is the happiest I've ever been in my own skin.
Blame it on the cell phone...

I'm a very petite person. I enjoy being very small. But if I gain even 5lbs my clothes start to not fit very well. Short individuals have less room to distribute their weight gain. I've gained almost 10lbs in the last 2 years. I'm not thrilled about it, but I can't seem to lose it either. So, all I can do is keep it toned up. I may only be 120, but cellulite is an evil beast that reeks havoc on people of all sizes. I'm very happy with my hourglass, but running everyday to keep it looking toned is no fun.
I would really enjoy long legs though. but that is never going to happen. I get leg envy a lot. lol.
