It's a PITA to cook a steak or a porkchop or a chicken breast every night. And cold salad doesn't always hit the spot.

But yeah, I believe low carb is best (even when there is a lot of fat involved).
I totally agree. The alternative for me is to have eggs or soup or lots of veggies for dinner(I don't cook meat which also makes it harder). I know canned soups are not great so I'm going to try to daal(lentil soup) with veggies. I don't have an issue with having a decent amount of carbs for lunch.

According to this...that 60 to 65% of fat is coming from mainly good fat.

I'm doing better..weight is finally going down again. I'm doing better on weekends too...trying to keep my indulging to 1day. I'm up against it this week as we will be headed on vacation tomorrow.... at least I will be walking/swimming with kiddos all day. For some reason vacation always plugs me up....I guess it's water intake that is harder or jus eating more rich foods.

I'm going to try to get one more day of workout in tomorrow before leaving. LOL>..

My java plug-in is being finicky so I can't see the link to the calculator. I agree with the main point of the linked article though - diet is more important than exercise in losing weight.

Recently, my own experience has been that once I upped my calories by 500 more per day and cut out half the exercise I was doing, the weight is steadily coming off. I'm not starving all day and I'm not killing myself 7 days a week, twice a day. I'm a believer!

Eating more doesn't mean eating whatever I want. The food I eat is good, wholesome, non-packaged foods. I'm not afraid of fats, I eat protein at every meal, I keep my carbs under 100 grams per day, and I'm not afraid to have a nightly glass of wine or a bowl of lowfat frozen yogurt with dark chocolate sauce for dessert.

Hamburger, cheese, bacon and eggs are "good" fat?? I thought "good" fat was nuts, fish and olive oil?

The old school low carb, high fat diets don't really distinguish btw good and bad fat...so I never pay attn to that.

Look into the Paleo diet. I don't agree with it being a true representation of what our paleolithic ancestors ate, but it is a really interesting way of eating, IMO. Look at marks daily apple. The thinking is Saturated fat is way better for you than trans fat. And is in bacon, hamburgers, butter, nuts and oils.

The diet industry wouldn't want it classed as a good fat but it exists in nature so logic says its got to be better for you than low fat, low sugar chemical sh*t storms the diet industry promotes.

Try vanilla whey powder. Tastes awesome blended with ice, a splash of coffee, a tsp of nutella or cocoa powder, a splash of soy milk..

Bodyrx has a bunch of tips.

It's not enough for me just to "like" this. This is a truism. It should be posted in every weight loss thread. Bumper stickers should be made!

But...but ... the wine?? It's heart healthy!

I do better with exercise than diet. I can diet until the cows come home and only drop a few lbs. I can exercise with no major changes in eating, and weight falls off very quickly.

I try to do a bit of both. Not really a diet per say. I try to limit carbs and sugar, and drink more water. I cut nothing out all together. I also do better with several small meals a day.

Eating right can sometimes be a challenge. It's so hard when I'm on nights. It takes 3 hours, after waking, to feel like I can stomach anything. Around midnight I get hungry again but everything I eat, later in the night, causes incredibly painful bloating. It's a common problem of graveyard shift workers.

Worn out iPhone. Need I say more?

Ha, I just read this quote my Gwen Stefani and thought of this thread. I love that she's not one of those "oh I stay this ultra-ridiculously fit just by chasing after my 2 kids" women.

...and more importantly, it makes you feel better, especially about yourself!
