Default Fat People Wearing Bikinis

So I'm sitting on the beach with my friend yesterday and a heavier woman (not obese, and probably not even as fat as I am) walked by wearing a bikini. My best friend immediately said, "Oh, my god. She should NOT be wearing that."
My response was, "I couldn't do it. But more power to her if she feels comfortable with it."
He said, "I don't want to see that."

On FB just now another person wrote: It's disturbing how many people dont realize they shouldn't be wearing low rise jeans..especially with tight shirts.

I'm a little sick of this "shouldn't" crap. Shouldn't according to who? Again, I try to wear things that I find pleasing. I'm not pleased when I see my saddlebag so I won't wear skirts that don't suck me in a bit. But if someone really doesn't care, it's starting to p!ss me off that someone else wholly unconnected with that person feels like they "shouldn't."

Okay, I guess this was more of a rant than anything else.

Personally, I feel people should mind their own business and keep their (fat) mouths shut.

If they don't like how someone looks, look elsewhere. Read a book.

I couldn't agree more with both of you. If I listened to all the "shouldn'ts" people have these days, I wouldn't be allowed to set foot out of my door. I'm tired of this "perfect" obsession people have now.

I never say anything about what people choose to wear at the pool or beach. I will go so far as to say anything goes there. I feel the same way about exercise clothes. I agree that he should mind his own business.

I fully admit I say catty things when I'm at the mall or walking down the street and I see someone in something completely inappropriate. I don't say it so the person can hear but I do say it.

I have issues with my own size, so I work on not projecting that onto others.

Really, I think it's a form of self-hatred in my own case, and it's just......rotten to hold others to the same more or less sickening standard I grew up with.

omg this girl I went to school with is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS calling someone fat on FB and saying they shouldn't be wearing this, or they need to do that...she even snuck out her phone on the train and took a picture of some random woman and posted it!

she's always been like that and im just waiting for it to blow up in her squashed little face.

People do that all the time, comment I mean. Look at the popularity of that People of Walmart website. Here on nc there have been lots of commentary about what people shouldn't wear.

^Eh, I think we're all allowed to comment since we all have a sense of fashion, and some stuff is just straight up fugly to the individual. I don't think that's the same as having a double-standard for people based on size.

I disagree that we all have a sense of fashion.

Well, I don't mean it's necessarily a good one, but we all have things that are in the "wear" and "don't wear" category. I think certain shoes should be killed with fire, so of course I recoil when I see someone wearing them.

IME, for every fat person wearing too little, there are 10 skinny people dressed just as bad or worse.

I'm in the mind your own business category, but I'd rather see a "fat" woman wearing a bikini at the beach than what passes for everywhere skinny fashion for some.

I admire anyone that feels comfortable enough with themselves to wear a bikini, heck even a bathingsuit!

Well, I am one of those fat girls wearing a bikini. Not often, but I do sometimes. Because I might wish that I was a little less curvy, but in terms of my actual fitness level, I'm in the best shape of my life. I've been doing martial arts for 2 years now- I can do 200 crunches like it's nothing and push through weekly tournament team practices that go 3-4 hours. I might not be thrilled with how my body looks, but I'm d*mn proud of what it's able to do. Two piece bathing suits are less of a hassle and cute tankinis can be hard to find. Oh well.

I wear bikinis too. At some point I am sure people have commented but oh well. I have been actually thinking I should look for something else for our trip to Maine but I am such a procastinator that I have not yet.

I think bikini or two pieces look better on bigger woman than one pieces, one pieces don't hide anything, so what does it matter? That's how I feel.

I could not agree more, and the obsession does not stop with outfit choices alone. It's done with everything. The urge to pick every single thing apart, with a magnifying glass and fine tooth comb, has reached an all time new level. Before you know it everyone will be wearing muu-muu's with hoods and blinking to communicate.

People should wear what they are comfortable in to the beach. It's not a professional setting. It's for fun and relaxation, and someones outfit is not going to put me off either of those. We can all be catty at times, and it may not be what I would choose to do, but I have no real right to expect others to please me 24-7.

Worn out iPhone. Need I say more?

We go to the beach fairly often, year round. You see all kinds of beach attire and I think the average beach goer pays no mind. I mostly lie there with my eyes closed.

We even have nekkid beaches. If you're worried about wearing the wrong thing, go nekkid!

More power to the women wearing bikinis. You see fat men with their stomachs exposed too, and no one cares.
