Thoughts on the name Logan Marley
I've decided on a new name for myself. I honestly love Zion Marley but it makes me seem Bob Marley obsessed. Plus Logan and my last name would make it harder for people to racial profile me by my name alone.

Honestly, having a long "e" sound in your second name (after Logan) makes me think of "Loganberry." Others may disagree, though.
I like the name Zion.

I'm not sure how I answer this since I don't want to discourage you based on something that is a matter of opinion. That said, I think Marley is fine, but I really, really dislike the name Logan. It reminds me of three things:
1. The grimy street in my city called Logan
2. A beagle I knew that used to eat his own..wastes
3. A loogie that you'd spit.
So.. I vote Zion.

I think Zion works better with the last name Marley. Truthfully both of them sound a little too made up and slightly pretentious for my taste. But choose the name that makes YOU happy.

I liken Logan and I like Zion. It's the Marley I'm not sure about. I was thinking of the yellow Labrador Retriever when I read "Marley."

I like Logan.
Marley sounds feminine to me.
I do not like Zion.
But, you need to go with what feels right to you.

To me, Zion, Marley or Zion Marley are "sacred" names for people of Jamaican / Caribbean / Black / Rasta origins or descent that I associate strongly with the anti-colonial struggles of Black people. I don't know any people who have those names for any other reason. Logan on the other hand is to me a trendy name from the white western culture - totally different and it clashes with Marley completely. I don't know your background or your beliefs, and your name is your decision, but if I met someone in real life who picked Zion or Marley just because they sounded nice or they "like Bob Marley", I'd roll my eyes on the inside.

Please let me know if there are other names we of non-Jamaican / Caribbean / Black / Rasta origins should avoid naming our children, because I have a 24 year old daughter named Makeda, and I'm just sure I stepped all over someone's "sacred."

You should go with Logan Marley if that's the name you really like and want. It's your decision and what you'll identify yourself by.

I like Logan Marley. I assume Marley would be your middle name? I like the 2 together very much. I of course don't know your last name, but I think these would flow very nicely with whatever your last name is.
As for names being sacred or having cultural significance, all names have meaning and are significant in one way or another - through history or family or whatever. There should be no restriction on names just because you aren't a member of the family/culture/pack. Choose a name you like, that suits you, that means something to you, or just sounds good to you. And wear it well.

I don't know how comfortable you are with this but I would say ask people that know you irl, I think they'd be able to give a better opinion on what would suit you. People have such varied opinions on names and what they like and don't like, you'll get too many different answers by just asking whether we like a name or not. (Not that you did ask that specifically).

Er, I didn't say you should avoid doing anything. I said to me they are sacred names and I personally don't approve of that choice. I didn't say anyone should avoid doing anything. But the OP wants to name themself and asked for opinions, and that's mine. No one has to like anyone else's name choice.
eta: The OP also mentioned racial profiling, so I don't know the OP's background. A Black person who doesn't understand the meaning of a name also gets an eyeroll from me.
