Default nonsensical "inspirational" quotes make me angry

I know there are millions of things that are more important, but when I see a quote that supposed to be inspirational and deep that makes zero sense, I become enraged.

a gem from facebook:
"friends are like stars they come and they go but only the true ones glow."

no.
stars do not "come and go", at least not in your lifetime. stars last for a pretty long time, actually.
all stars glow, not just "true" stars.
this implies that even your true, glowy friends come and go, which isn't something I would associate with a true, glowy friend.

another facebook one: "I killed 2 stones with 1 bird"

I'm pretty sure he thought he was, like, on par with Confucius for coming up with that.

does this bother anyone else? any faux inspirational quotes you want to share?

I've seen many, but none that I can think of right now.
Same strain but slightly tangential - last night on the news was a lady speaking about the trial for her murdered daughter, and she came out with this gem: "um, I describe it like the twin towers...you just can't bring them back.."
Seriously?

Sent from my "smart" phone, 'scuse crazy typos.

YES!!!! 3 of the ones I hate the most are along the same lines

"shoot for the moon if you miss you're land among the stars." Someone obviously didn't take astronomy.

"Remember the guy who gave up, neither does anyone else." Please everyone has given up on something. On the other hand, there are people who never gave up no matter what, they're living in their parents basement still waiting for that perfect job. Reality: if a person gives up easily, there's a good chance they didn't really want it. Giving up a real dream is HARD. examples, realizing the person you love will never be what you need, changing career paths because the one you want will never pay the bills.

'Nothing is impossible". . . can I visit your world sometime? I would love to live someplace where physics and disabilities don't exist, money doesn't matter, where you can get everything you want if you just work hard enough and everyone behaves exactly how you want them too. Some argue some things are just highly improbable, doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Pursuing highly improbably is a good way to end up in your parents basement, if you're lucky enough to a) have parents, and b) ones willing and able to bail you out of trouble, if not, you're going to end up on the streets.

And oh yeah, anything YOLO related. Statistically speaking, tomorrow is probably going to come for you, consequences matter.

'Live each day as if it's your last.'

If i did that, I'd never go to work again.

Ugh...make me cringe when they misappropriate Biblical text for this purpose. I don't have any examples on hand (bc I don't save that kind of stuff) but something like, "Remember, Jesus wants you to be happy and having fun at all times, so don't let this trial get you down."

I mean, the author is well-intentioned, but it's just not right to misquote Jesus or the Bible.

I HATE "Being a mom is the hardest / best job in the world."

And I also hate the "anything is possible" stuff - no it's not. A person with an IQ of 80 is not going to get a phD in nuclear physics from a top university no matter how hard they work. Nor is a tone-deaf person going to become an international opera star because they really, really want it. It's very important to assess your skills and abilities realistically. But people use some exceptions or the truly remarkable people of the world as templates for everyone else.

Well, Beethoven was deaf (at some point in his later life)... I'm not arguing. I agree with you. But that factoid just came to me.

He wasn't tone deaf, though. Someone who's tone deaf can hear, but can't tell one pitch from another. If you play a scale or sing a song, they perceive it as just one pitch (or non-pitch, I guess) repeated over and over.

Uh... if you're completely deaf, then you're tone deaf too, by definition.

Except that he went deaf gradually later in life and so he retained his memory of the sound of pitches and harmonies, and had partial hearing of pitches for quite some time. A tone-deaf person wouldn't have that. Plus, he wasn't a singer - he didn't have to PRODUCE sounds. He envisioned them and wrote them down for others to produce, using the piano and what was in his head.

Yeah, I never really understood that. It totally flies in the face of the lessons we learned from the Ant and the Grasshopper. How confusing!

Yeah, that's what I was getting at Beethoven could compose without hearing because of his incredible understanding of how to construct music (which is pretty much a subfield of math). But someone who's tone deaf lacks the neurological capacity to develop even the most basic understanding of music and pitch.

I can't believe I forgot about this!! This quote is my biggest pet peeve. This is especially rage-inducing because it's popular with grade school teachers and I've seen it on posters.

there are no stars between earth and the moon! Shoot for the moon, but only with proper equipment, training, and funding! A star is too many light years away for you to reach.

I hate anything that preaches positive thinking, hope and the power of the mind as a way to achieve happiness. As if passivity and wishful thinking could alter reality. If your hands are tied, then brace yourself for whatever outcome. Keeping it together in a bad situation and pulling through...now that's admirable.

I hate the one where they use examples like Oprah, Bill Gates, etc. to say "see, they came from nowhere and look at them NOW".

I'm sorry, but they are the exception!
