Default I found yet another thing that triggers my migraines

I've been eating Stacy's Pita Chips for several months now. I eat them a lot, as a quick on-the-go snack. But every time I ate them, I got headaches. I scoured the ingredients and no obvious triggers jumped out at me, so like any true foodie, I kept eating them. After yet another attack this morning, after snacking on the chips last night, I did a Google search. This site alerted me to what might be the culprit and after some research I confirmed it.

Stacy's Pita's Chips contain barley malted flour, which contains tannins (the same stuff in wine). I had no idea. It's not one of the usual suspects.

I thought I'd share, in case someone didn't know.

Yes, I get them. Mostly from wine. I also developed an allergy to wine in the last five years. I start sneezing like crazy after my second or third glass, and I wake up with a migraine in the morning.

Mixed drinks can be a problem if the mixer has citric acid in it, another trigger.

Thanks. Pain is a great motivator.

You're smart to have figured it out but it sucks because those chips are yummy!

That is a handy site, for more than one reason. I will email it to my bestie, and maybe it will help him.

I am sorry you have to deal with the big M's. I rarely have one but know from my friend, and some family members, that it is incredibly hard to discover all your triggers.

Sorry about your migraines. Hugs from a fellow sufferer (for 47 years now). My list of triggers and my list of meds and treatments I've tried over the years is now about 19 miles long. It sucks.

I'm so sorry you all have migraines. I remember my mom suffering from them till she found out she was allergic to corn. For years the only ice-cream in the house was Butter Pecan from Braum's because for some reason it was sweetened with real sugar not corn syrup. What was strange is that allergy slowly went away over time.

Interesting. We have similar triggers. I know tannins are consistently one, and I strongly suspect citric acid is another, but it seems like some times I'm more sensitive to it than others.

Redvines seem to do it too. I'm not sure if it's the citric acid in them because I always react...thinking it might be the comparatively high (to other 'foods' with it) amount of Red 40.
