Default Do you have days when you feel like people are staring at you for no reason?Update#24

It freaks me out when it happens.

I noticed older women are usually less unabashed about staring too. And they look very serious doing it. Which makes me think it's a look of disapproval.

Or maybe it's all in my head.

Sometimes. I usually try to ignore them or stare until they tell me what they are looking at. Or chalk it up to plain old jealousy(especially when I have my hair out).

If my hair is out, then I assume that's what it is. But if not, I get paranoid. It makes little sense to me that a random stranger would be jealous.

What probably happens is that I happen to notice one person stare, it makes me self-conscious, and for the rest of the day I notice looks from strangers that are probably nothing but me crossing their field of vision by chance.

It's paranoid, but narcissistic too.

Give 'em a big smile and a wave. That's what I do. They always get suddenly very interested in their phone, or the sky or whatever when they know you've caught them.

We call the man who lives next door "staring guy." I have a lot of experience with this.

If its older women, rest assured we are not staring at you. Our distance vision is usually not that great! You look blurry.

I normally ask "What are you looking at?"

Sometimes the person will tell me what it is, or ask a question about my hair/clothes. Other times they will sheepishly look away.

Staring is one of my biggest pet peeves. I am sorry but if someone is rude enough to stare/gawk; then I feel like I have license to be direct as well. Lol

Bwahahahaha!

Um, I have been known to stare. I am an artist who is good with drawing, painting and sculpting but have zero fashion sense, so when I see a lady put together in a way I like, I am taking mental notes in my head. If I get busted staring, whether I get a nasty look or an inquisitive one, I fess up and say, "I love your _________" fill in the blank be it hair, scarf, dress, boots, whole ensemble, etc.

Errr, if I am staring at you from behind a sketch pad, yep, I am sketching you! I love doing 30-90 second sketches. In all the years I've done that, I've only been caught by the unknowing model a couple of times. Normally passers-by notice and I flip the page and find a new object de art.

I make funny faces at anyone I catch staring at me. I never assume they are jealous of me. I assume they are amused with something retarded I am doing

This happens to me at times, makes me feel quite paranoid. This last Monday I was grocery shopping and I swear I saw at least half a dozen people staring at me (if not actually staring it was definitely looking for longer than I would consider normal). I became convinced that I must have something on my face but there was nothing out of the ordinary that I could see. Maybe there's just lots of strange people around here!

Funny. Obviously I don't mean it as a generalization, just that I noticed a certain type of woman, usually in her 60's, that likes to stare.

I don't know if this is common in the States, but usually when you go to a smaller town in Brazil, there are some women who like to sit right outside their houses or who just lean at their windows and do nothing but stare at the street and watch people go about their business.

Yes, people sometimes stare at me weirdly. I noticed it years ago. My then-boyfriend said I was "just imagining it," or that they were checking me out (uh, no; I know what checking out/flirting looks like!). And then one day HE noticed it. We chalked it up to me being a redhead. Apparently some people believe redheads are witches.

Like Dedachan said, I feel both paranoid and narcissistic for thinking that people are staring at me, but, yes, people are staring at me! I think I am very average looking--not beautiful or ugly enough to be noteworthy--and I dress in a very average and boring way that doesn't draw attention. No one has ever commented on my hair (my sister, on the other hand, gets hair compliments literally daily...). Black people are not a rarity around here, so it's not that. I really don't know what it could be. These days, I've been thinking that maybe it has something to do with my demeanor or gait. Something intangible like that.

Umm, I might be guilty of this! Here I've been complaining about people staring at me and now I realize that I probably do stare at redheads. I love red hair, especially red curly hair. There have been many times where I've been on the verge of telling someone that I love her hair but shyness keeps me from doing it.

Oh dear, maybe I'm guilty of that too. My boys are both redheads and I do tend to notice and look at other redheads (though generally just children).

Yes, people have always stared at me--especially when I was younger and living in a very ethnically homogenous area. But, people still do it today--my husband tells me about it only if I ask him because he knows how much I hate it. When we first met, he thought I was being paranoid...until he started going out in public with me and saw with his own eyes. As a result of a lifetime of this, I am very self-conscious now and it adds tremendously to my social anxiety, so I tend to look through people when I'm out in public--as if I don't see them--so that I don't have to see peoples' eyes lingering on me. It makes me very unobservant of others, unfortunately. I also try not to stare or appear to be staring at others because I know how uncomfortable it makes me.

Because of my background, the list of possible "whys" doesn't interest me.

People do stare at redheads --- sometimes nicely, sometimes not.

When it happens to me I assume I'm doing or wearing something weird even for me, and I just carry on. I often think it could be the pine needles that always fall in my hair, as well. Or that they overheard me singing or talking to myself or my dogs in public.

I like moppy's suggestion, though.

I'm kind of a starer. Usually, it's at hair or clothing. Sometimes admiringy. Sometimes horrified. Yeah, kind of expectingto get told one of these days. Surprised it hasn't happened already. LOL

I so tend to notice redheads more and would look (not leer) more than I would other hair colors. It's because I love red hair and think it's the most beautiful of hair! X 1000 if it is red curly hair.

I have people stare at me all the time and at first it unsettled me but then I realize why. It's very unusual it my area for people to have vibrant hair colors. As in blue!

I often think I catch people staring at my boobs, but that's probably BC they're staring at my boobs.

Someone who paid for them to get stared at might appreciate it. I do not.

I thought I was the only one! I hate getting stares too and I've gotten paranoid. And I use to walk with my head up but now sometimes I look down to avoid it.Also I see people that will put their head down as they pass me by to avoid looking at me I guess.
Before I got to drive I was really paranoid and worried about what people in their cars thought of me.Later I realized that was stupid but no one really pays that much attention or has the time.

But I notice mostly women in their 20s-30s staring or guys and of course children.I don't have the guts to say what are you looking at and sometimes if you catch them staring they just look away and then go back to staring. And I don't think its my hair since its up 99% of the time, but it might be my eyes I've been told they look sad, sleepy or 'evil' eyes.
