Default Working Visa question

Hi ladies, I was hoping someone might have some info for me before I wait on hold for 30 minutes.
I will most likely be applying for my 5 year visa to live/work in the UK. I had heard somewhere that if I have debt I won't be allowed to do so. Is this true? I have a student line of credit an student loans, but I didn't think that would affect my ability to move countries?! I know I have to prove that I have the funds to support myself for X amount of time, but does that include being debt free..?

I can't find a lot about it on google...
TIA!

I feel pretty certain that you have to have a job to get a visa, you can't get a visa and then search for a job.

As for debt, my husband had student loan debt when he was sponsored for his work visa, but that was UK to US and not the other way.

A friend from Vancouver went to teach for a year in England. She had student loans, but also was going on a job offer...not sure if that made a difference.

That was 4-5 years ago, so things may have changed.

You have to get a job offer to get the visa to work overseas. In other words, the employer has to be willing to get it for you.

Not the case for me... I can go and then get work, I was just unsure about the debt thing. Seems a little strange!
Thanks

Don't expect to just get work here. The job situation is hard right now.

Can I ask why you're the exception?

Haha, yes, yes you can!
I would be going with either SWAP, which is a program through university for ages 17-35 which does not require employment prior to landing, or on the UK Ancestry Visa which also does not require employment prior to, and is good for 5 years.
