I've met many many cats and they've all loved me...except one. My best friend's cat Gracie is AWFUL to everyone. She bites and scratches just for fun. When I go visit I get attacked at least once. She's attacked me many times when I'm just sitting with my bestie on the sofa or at the table. Walking around is terrifying.

And she's this awful to everyone, pretty much even to my bestie.

This is what I don't understand. Did something happen to Gracie to make her so mean? Why is she so hostile?

Maybe she doesn't have enough clear vertical space or playtime. It seems to work on those cats on My Cat From Hell.

Hmmmm. So, she's cranky because she's physically frustrated, like a dog needing a walk and not getting one?

Could be. Most of the angry, hissing, attacking cats on that show need environmental adjustments, whether more off the ground free space or some exercise. It's neat what that dude does with cats.

Buddy is sweet, but he's a loud, crabby cat who will ankle grab if he doesn't get enough 'hunting time.' We play with the fishing rod style toys, and he has his own little wool blanket that he likes to attack, rip, and drag around after he 'kills' it. He chews his catnip toys until he rips them apart. He's a mousing breed and needs to mouse. Of course, 20 hours of his day does seem to be taken up with naps, eating, grooming, and getting petted. But, miss his 15 minutes of hunting and I'll hear about it.

I didn't know there are mousing breeds and non-mousing breeds.

Well, in cat scale, I suppose. Most cats will hunt if they learn how, but a Maine Coon is more wired for mousing than a Ragdoll. The former was originally bred to mouse and the latter is bred for its docility.

My parents have two DSH kitties. One mouses, the other watches.

I've talked to my bestie about it and even suggested she look up that guy's website but she hasn't yet. I personally think Gracie would benefit from a cat tree or something else to get her up high. She doesn't have that now. She has plenty of room to have zoom time on the floor but really no place to go UP.

Gracie had a perfectly normal kittenhood. The only other thing might be that my bestie lived alone at the time and NEVER had people over. Then as Gracie got meaner and meaner, my bestie was even less likely to have people over. But I've known plenty of kitties in homes with one single person and none of them are from hell.

Yeah, some cats need high space. Queen of her domain and all that.

Buddy needs mid height horizontal space. I used a tall Rubbermaid container because cat tree platforms are mostly too small for him to lie on.

It is so rare for a cat not to like me, probably because I love cats so much (and all animals for that matter. the whole cat hating thing is perplexing to me).
The only one I can really remember was Kitty, one of my sister's cats. Every time I visited her he would ignore me for awhile then run at me and bite my ankle. Every time. And not in a playful way. I wasn't insulted but I always wondered why he disliked me.

It's EXTREMELY rare for a cat not to like me. Which is why it's such an affront when one doesn't!

Tell me about it. I have two Maine Coons. Patches, Buddy's identical twin cousin, and Shadow who looks like like RCW's Smudge. Patches was a bitey, pissy missy who would attack for no apparent reason. I started putting her on the back patio when she attacked and I noticed when she came back instead she was calmer. It gave her a chance to watch the birds and talk to the squirrels I guess. Now she's at the front door when the sun is up and at the backdoor when the sun is down. She's much, much happier and more pleasant now. Shadow?? He is just a clown cat who you have to play with using string or toys to wear him out or he'll bug the heck out of you or still your toys (earrings, pens, keys...I think he's part Raccoon).

No lol. But cats do seem to love me. I'll be walking down the road and they start to follow me before now. One cat that lived near my student house used to squeak and rush up to me whenever I walked past and climb on my shoulder. I've had some who snub you but they do it so regally I can't be upset by it

I love that cats have personality though. They are very human that way. You have to earn their loyalty and affection. I think they're very intelligent creatures (on the whole I do have one daft little thing whose probably knocked any brain cells out of her own head by running into things too often).

I'm a cat magnet. I've had strays follow me on the street. There is one friend's cat who doesn't care for me. His name's Lorenzo. He's part Maine Coon and part something else. Last time I saw him he scratched and bit me. I don't take it personally. Part of the reason why I'm more partial to cats is because they are more discerning, independant and unique. Dogs are more high maintenance and will like anyone as long as they are treated decently.

Most of my cats have been very friendly to most everyone. Pita was not. She disliked nearly everyone. When I first 'tamed' her, she would just run and hide under the bed whenever anyone would come to the house. Then she decided they were invading her space so she would hiss and spit and lash out.
There was only one person she liked besides me and that's my boyfriend Chon. I think it was because he smells like his dogs and cats and the wood stove and incense and the human version of catnip. : )

I don't get upset about anything cats do because they're cats! But I was talking to Bella (pup) the other day when she abruptly turned around and left the room while I was mid sentence. WTH?

One of my parent's old cats ran into things too.... on purpose. Because it was fun.

People thought she hated them, but she just enjoyed running full tilt into your leg.

It's a rare cat that hates me, to go back on topic. And it's my personal mission to get the ones that don't like me to like me. I've had mixed results.
