One of my housemate's cats peed on my dry clean only drapes. From everything I have read online, cat pee smell can't be dry cleaned out, they only can get rid of the stain. Is this true and does anyone have any suggestions??

Enzymatic cleaners will take care of it, but I'm not sure what to use on a dry clean only fabric.

I agree with RCC. I used to use Nature's Miracle (enzyme cleaner specifically for cats) when my cats had accidents, but never had to use it on anything like curtains. It will certainly remove the odor, but it's hard to say what it might do to your curtains. You could always test it on a small area.

I agree with testing a spot. Some dry clean only clothing items can handle a gentle wash cycle. I'm not sure about curtains.

I like Bissell Pee Eww and have heard good things about Nature's Miracle.

The carpet might need treated too if the cat is going on the curtains. Your housemate should have (or get) a blacklight to find the stains.

What are the drapes made of, you might be able to wash them using the delicate cycle even if they say dry clean only?

I would try washing them in cold on the delicate cycle and letting them soak with some nature's miracle for a bit and then hanging them to dry. You might have to iron (ick) them after to make them look decent again.

cold wash always. enzymatic cleaner (I've used nature's miracle specifically for cats too)

also baking soda works really well. Baking soda with some peroxide and laundry detergent.

You have already gotten enough great advice for the curtains. I just wanted to add, in case any other accidents happen, that white vinegar is a great tool when dealing with cat pee. It also functions like an enzyme cleaner.

Distilled white vinegar is a miracle in a bottle.

They sell spray-on fabric cleaners formulated to get rid of pee. You don't have to launder the fabric afterwards, either.

I did what rileyb suggested and it worked like a charm! They're wrinkly, but stain and smell free!!
