Speaking of birth control....(long and random)

Like Tree5Likes

I've been on birth control, for about 7.5 years. Since High school, I wasn't sexually active (not that that is anyone's business) I had really bad mood swings and acne (actually I don't even remember if I had bad acne) anyway, I was on it because mainly, I was a cray cray person on my period. I've been on it continuously for 7...(I think my math is bad) years, if I changed bc pills, I would just change pills not take a month off or anything.

Anyway, reading about how birth control causes you to gain weight, I'm curious what would would happen if I go off (I'm still not sure what causes my weight gain, I'm fairly active yet, I gain weight, I know I didn't eat the healthiest (I do now but before I would frequent fast food a lot) but I still gain about 10 lbs every year since forever.

In high school I was wearing a size 5 baby adult/ junior. Then a 7 .... The weird part is I just now moved up in pant size...after gaining about 45 lbs. No lie. I wore a 7 in young teen adult since freshman year (4 years ago weighing 140, I gained weight the summer before college because I was a nervous wreck LOL) up until about this year weighing in at a high 185. Last semester I actually couldn't fit them anymore. now not sure, I avoid trying on pants but I fit an adult woman 6, Might be a 10 in baby adult/juniors.

I can't remember when I started seasonique, I have no idea, but I did balloon up fast last year. Probably just from being a big hungry.

I eat about 1400 calories a day. I have been for the past 4 months that I've been strict on counting cals , even with "bad" food, I still end up at 1400 calories a day, not even trying.

that's just some small background info the main point is....

what happens when you go off?? Anything scary? Is something bad going to happen? Should I go off? I still get acne anyway, so it's not like it's going to change that. Maybe I should just go for a really really light dosed bc?

but anyway, why can't I lose weight?? I just don't understand. I've been going pretty hard now and I lost maybe 2 lbs.

Could it be birth control, or do I wake up at night and drive to McDonald's while I'm sleeping..I don't know.

Losing weight sucks.

I mean I'm just thinking about it now, and ever since around junior year of High school, I ballooned up around 10 lbs every year. SINCE.

11th: 120
12th: 130 -went to 125 because I was angry
freshman : 140 (what???)
sophomore: 145 ( I have collective weight loss diaries i find in my room going way back...to sophomore year LOL)
junior: Pretty sure I didn't weigh myself because not sure but ....
senior: not sure here either....oh wait here comes 2nd semester saw some pictures...185!!!!
2nd year senior (, hey I have a minor..and took random classes for fun): 180ish still....

I was weight lifting female champ all of high school (sup? Oh you wanna out do me in squats, don't even try...oh you wanna do a wall squat competition, I can squat for days straight...my thighs still got all that power, feel the burn? what burn? coming in at 125 turtles will now squat 400 lbs. traditional squats BOOM shots fired, at your thighs for being weak, I was principal trunchbull all day ), I did track, (I NEVER EVER ate fast food in high school except maybe every couple of months because my mom is...normal? crazy? Not sure but I just never ate it)..so.........that actually has nothing to do with anything I'm just bragging.

Sometimes I don't care about my weight, I'm like maybe I'm supposed to be this big, but then I see my face in pictures and eff that noise, my face looks huge, my head was already big as a child, and not to mention my stomach looks like I'm pregnant. NO really, it does, my aunt asked me if I was pregnant.

So I can't. I rebuke this weight.

I'm 5'7 btw, well 5'6 and 3/4th because the nurses never actually let me have 5'7.

the other day I read in a magazine that allergy medicine makes you gain weight, bc, and anxiety pills, well I don't' take anxiety pills anymore so my weight should go away...oh wait maybe that's why I ballooned up quick last year.
Your weight gain issue could be thyroid related. Have you looked at that?

LOL at your squats!!!!!!!
no. someone said this somewhere before.

My cousin has a thyroid issue, they discovered it about a year ago. He's in high school. But I don't know. I just don't know.

I don't even have a regular doctor.

I have an ear nose and throat, and a gyno. that's it. LOL.

I go to urgent care, I guess they're my doctor but it's a random Doctor. every time.

I feel like If I ask to be tested like that someones going to be like "nah you don't have that you're just a fatty" but I'M NOT I SWEAR.

I have like one cheat day a week and I don't even go hard in the paint. I still stay in my calorie range.

Except this week, I have now two. but I thought I was dying earlier today. And since I survived .....I got zaxbys.....

but count my calories....1200 so far. I have to calculate my spinach smoothies I had, but that still isn't a probz.

I don't know how old you are, but try not to worry.
Don't focus on the scale, focus on how your clothes fit.
I never could do the weighing and calorie counting.
As long as I'm in my BMI range, under 25, no one has given me grief about my weight, just me!
Just be sensible and focus on the good foods, such as protein and veggies.
Try not to compare yourself to others.
I am a lot shorter than you and I have always thought if I were much taller.
Good luck!
I was on the pill for 19 years and all that happened when I went off was my skin went to hell, big time. That was in 2003 and I still miss my perfect skin.

My periods stayed regular when I went off, which I was worried about. I went on the pill in the first place because my periods were awful - totally irregular, awful cramps, etc.

I know to go by size and not scale,
that's the thing, none of my clothes fit anymore LOL. Like I cannot get them up my legs.

My stomach is just so big. And I've never had stomach problems before.

And my face is huge. My arms are flabby, I've never had flabby arms before. MY SLEEVES BE TIGHT, what is this?!?

I don't weigh myself now, only rarely because it depresses me, because I know I probably haven't lost much weight.

And my bmi puts me at overweight now, so...yea, nothing positive over here.

One positive is my boobs got bigger. JK THAT'S THE WORST PART OF IT. Ain't nobody got time for chest problems. All of my bras are too small. And I'm not trying to pay for new ones, cause I don't want to be this size.

I already bought some pants in a size I can barely fit, made me mad, made me want to punch someone cause I should fit in them with ROOM to spare by now.
I was on BC years ago and went off them within a matter of months. It takes a while for your body to adjust without the added hormones so your cycle may not be regular for a bit. A lot of the weight should come off, but if it doesn't even after you stop taking the pill, it could be some other issue that needs to be checked out.

LadyV69, how long did it take for you to get your period back after stopping the pill?

maybe I'll just go to the doctor (which I have to soon if this AWFUL RASH ALL OVER MY FACE DOESN'T GO AWAY, #turtleprobz) and just be like "LOOK AT MY FITNESSPAL LOOK AT MY FITNESS PAL, WHY AM I NOT LOSING WEIGHT!!??!?!?!?

^I really can't remember. Not too long, about 6 weeks. But then the first time I was on the pill, I wasn't on it that long. I don't know what the effect would be if you've been on it for years.

I had been on the pill for about 9 years and went off of it in July. I got my period after about 5 weeks and have been a-okay since. I downloaded the "period-tracker" app to keep an eye but I have had about 29 day cycles since.
I did get headaches for about 3 days after about a week of going off. Nothing devastating but more just irritating.

I went on the pill initially for BC and for the fact that my periods were brutal - sleeping on the bathroom floor not leaving my house for 2 days kinda brutal. Knock on wood, but I haven't even had cramps since I went off.
"Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.
Bc pills make me crankier. My skin clears up, and my periods a little lighter, but I fat and cranky. And migraines. Clearly It's not worth it.

I see you comparing your weight to high school, college and such. I don't know how old you are now, but once you get into your 20s and up, your metabolism just changes. You gain weight in different places, and in different ways - I've looked back at pictures of myself in my early 20s and although I'm heavier then, my are so much thinner! It's crazy. Welcome to being a woman I guess. My weight fluctuates a lot. 5-10 lbs is a big difference on me bc I'm only 5'2. And my metabolism sucks.

I'm only 22, and if I'm stuck at this weight, like I said, I will pull some major wizardry, get an invisibility cloak, or transform into cat.

My only options.

180 lbs, hell nah, and then I can't ever have children cause I'll just get bigger. quel est le point?

Just thinking about it makes me want to go ...go somewhere, go to hell, go live in a cave, who cares. I'm sooooooo annoyed with this. Which is annoying because I'm only 22, I'm not even an older person, it's not like I'm 30. I'm just going to be miserable for the rest of my life. Wonderful.

I know someones gonna be like, blah blah theres more important things well, you can suck my big toe, and I'm going to go be the new half ton woman. Might as well.
OMG Turtles. I know you are having serious issues, but the way you post is just CRACKING ME THE HELL UP!!!!!!!

I'm sorry for laughing. I'm a fatty myself and I always talk the way you talk, but you are just down right funny with it!

Have you thought about whether you are leptin resistant? If you are leptin resistant, you will have a hard time losing weight. NO.MATTER.WHAT.YOU.DO...ask me how I know.

For years, I dieted and dieted eating 1200 calories and so on, working out, and nothing. Any weight I would lose, I would gain it back. Not to mention I was CONSTANTLY hungry no matter what. What eventually worked for me is reducing carbs (especially my first love, BREAD) and sugar.

I was 24 when I went on the pill, for sex related reasons alone. I was talked into it by my boyfriend. We were in a committed relationship, were tested before I agreed, and I trusted him to be faithful. He absolutely was! He also had the mojo of a snail. I went from 122 lbs to 160 in no time, and for little to no reason at all. He's the one that should have been popping pills. Anywho, I stopped taking them after a year. I felt horrible when on them, the weight gain messed with my blood pressure, and I was continuously exhausted.

I did physically feel better when I came off the pill, but it took almost a year for me to drop down to 140. My weight was up and down for several years after, due to different reasons, but it was the BC that initially threw my body out of whack. I have also continued to have problems with my blood pressure, on and off.

Now, 13 years later, I have been holding at 132-135 for almost 2 years. My metabolism finally seems to be back on track.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

Between trying to post this, stopping to do what I needed to do, and messing with my phone... I was trying to remember of I had acne issues, how long it took for my period to return to normal, etc. I honestly can't. It's been too long.

I just know I do not regret going off it, and will never take it again.

When I was about 20 I weighed 175lbs. I'm 5'2. That's how much my final weight pregnant is. From being 17 and weighing about 120. I had switched around a few different birth control pills and I was hungry all the time. Plus I ate like crap, but I had constant pms cravings. Going off bc pills did make me instantly drop 20.

I just thought about this.
You might want to double check this info, but when Kirstie Alley was on Dr. Oz a few weeks back, she said that when she did 1400 calories as opposed to 1200 she would lose weight. Anything below that number would make her stall.

It's true; not eating enough will cause your body to hoard fat. I would definitely get a full thyroid panel done, though.

I'm sorry, that is a lot of weight gain and yes 22 is not that old, or old enough to be seeing such weight fluctuations. I didnt start noticing weight changes until I was 29 or 30. As in I gained weight in different areas(and it's still slight). I'm the same size/weight as when I was younger but I can't eat as much, and this is most likely because I have a desk job and drive everywhere unlike college.

I really don't have any advice to give you about bc pills except that I tried them once and hate them. I will never take hormones again. I was not on them long enough to see if it affected my weight.

About thyroid testing, they might not catch it at first and you have to make sure that you take the full panel test(or whatever it's called). I've heard you may have to take it a few times before anything shows up if you do have an issue.

So do you still have strong thighs? You must have an awesome butt.
