Breaking Amish

Has anyone watched?

I really like it, but wonder a few things. Where do they get the money from? I would assume the show is giving them money, but maybe some sort of allowance? A few have mentioned how much stuff is and that they need to be careful. Sabrina & Jeremiah are looking for jobs, but the others don't seem worried.

The girls have also mentioned being there for a few weeks, so wondering what happens at the end. Go home, or try to make it on there own?

I also wondered about the money, because a lot of what they're doing the English don't even do because of lack of funds.

I heard this entire show is staged. Like all of the cast members have been shunned for a while now and some are hopping from reality show to reality show, that two of them have a kid or kids together, etc. I just take it all like Laguna Beach or something.

(Or whichever show ended with them "revealing" that it was all staged.)

Awww....that makes me sad that it's all staged

I could see it with Kate, but not the others.

I've half watched one episode. It reminded me of a show I watched years ago on the CW or UPN or something. I liked the other better.

Anyway, I got curious while watching and googled. Turns out its pretty fake. I don't know the full premise though since I only caught parts of one episode.
Ah, it all makes sense now. Goldy is the puppet master!

The previews for next week look good!

Maybe its going to come out the Rebecca is married? That would be weird though if they are already togeather and have a baby.

I get them doing this whole show pretending, I think it's weird that the families are doing it though?

I have watched some of it. I am sure a lot of it is fake. What I am amazed at is (call me naive) how they swear and how catty they are. I guess I thought because they were a religious sect they were all proper, and I even live in Amish country.

Being "proper for propers" sake often breeds judgment, cattiness and inauthenticity.

I would much prefer to spend my time with someone less proper who is warm and engaging than someone who hides meanness behind manners and modesty.

This is why I prefer Kate. She is a mess but doesn't pretend to be anything but who she is. It's all on the table.

I find the others to be very inauthentic and use their manners and modestly to feel superior.

It's Rebecca's divorce and the last line is a payment by NBC

I would have been ticked if I were this guy, even if it was pro-bono. They still didn't get the job done at the end of the day.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
I think I really would have liked the show if it weren't fake.

There were plenty of reasons to think it could be fake but one reason:

Jeremiah says he was already married at one point. He tells Abe that he will not be considered Amish if he marries Rebecca since she has already been married. Flashback to the first episode where he is engaged to an amish girl right before he is to leave for NYC.

Also, if the families are Amish and the Amish are not allowed to be filmed (I actually tried taking the picture of a little Amish boy who sold me a horseshoe once and he and his father ran) why would they allow an entire camera crew in and around their homes? Why would they go to NYC?

Also, Did anon notice Sabrina's style? The rest of them I get but it seems that her style has quickly evolved. How does one go from having no clue how to dress "english" to such a style that stands out (two toned hair, hair feathers, choice of clothing). Maybe she is quick to grasp these things but I doubt it.

All I know is watching made me appreciate Honey Boo Boo, at least they're being their gross selves with all the farting and all. Breaking Amish was/is truly a horse and pony show.

I didn't see all the episodes. What did Sabrina find out about her parents from the private investigator?
