No clue. hehe. We only caption live shows. If it wasn't a live show and there were lots of missing letters, odd symbols, etc. it might be what's called a decoder error. The captions get corrupted through the signal line. So it's not actually bad captions but a bad signal.
But my agency only captions Daily and Colbert so if it truly is bad captions it's not my fault, and I LOVE when it's not my fault 
ETA: I'm captioning for CBS tonight so any errors on any other channel can be blamed on someone else!
