1976 Ford vs Carter. Carter won.
That was my first National election. I can't remember the State and local elections I voted in before then.

I remember the feeling! It's a beautiful experience feeling like you own some stock in the politics of America My 1st time voting was for Obama 4 years ago and in three weeks as well!

1988. I accidentally voted straight ticket Republican because I didn't understand how the voting machine worked. I knew I wanted to vote for a Republican congressional candidate, I pulled a lever and it was over. It took about a minute - 30 seconds of which was staring at the machine to figure it out.
I would have voted for Dukakis, but ended up voting for Bush. It was quite a letdown.

1993. Canadian federal election. Voted for Gilles Morin for MP. His party (Liberals) won and Jean Chretien was elected PM.
First US election was 1996: voted for Bill Clinton.

I was old enough to vote for 2000 Gore/Bush but was registered in another town and never got it changed over. So I didn't vote. I didn't care all that much either, which I felt really bad about.
In 2004, I was in college and got super involved in the whole process because I wanted Bush out of office. I even went to the Kerry rally and voted for the first time ever in the Student Union Building at my school...I was crushed when he lost.
