PLEASE tell me this movie traumatizes you... Maybe its the pink bunny outfit thing the aunt made... or the leg lamp... or the bullies and the tongue getting stuck on the flag pole. This movie made me CRY every time I went to the santa in the mall... I hate the part with the boot in the face. *shivers* still creeps me out!

You all know what movie I'm talking about...

I cringe everytime about getting your mouth washed out with soap... as a kid my mom used to 'wash' my mouth out. I wonder if moms still dothat nowadays? But it worked for me. I thought that meant I had to have a clean mouth until it got dirty again.

this movie didn't so much traumatize me as drive me absolutely frecking nuts! I cannot stand this movie! I think it is one of the most awful movies ever made, and I wish it would be declared "officially stupid" and never be played on TV again!

Ok, I feel better now that I got that out. My boyfriend loves this movie - drives me nuts. *sigh*

I have never heard of A Christmas Story traumatizing anyone. Not liking it, yes, but trauma? You crazy!

I own the movie too, not traumatized by it. I hated the bunny suit and I thought his mom was crazy for making him wear it.

I feel like such a meanie, but I can't stand this movie! It's just awful! I'd much rather watch the Goonies.
I hated the part with the Santa at the mall and for some reason, every year, I always manage to catch that part as I'm flipping channels.
That santa is too scary!
He still can't compare to the oompa loompas though..

No way.. I love this movie!! I want to get it on DVD because it has clips of them now that they're older. I think they play it 24/7 on TNT on Christmas Eve.

I think it would traumatize me if I had the mental capacity of a 5 yr old (or were 5 yrs old) but it's not a story for kids----its for adults. Truly one of the funniest Christmas movies ever made!

OMG! That is the funniest movie ever I love it! I can't find it now but on MSN about a week or so ago it was ranked the top Xmas movie of all time.

See this is interesting. I remember reading during my freshman psyc. class that there are certain moments or events that can be seriously detrimental to the relationship between a mother and her daughter. If I'm not mistaken, this was one of them. Something about chemicals in the soap causing a reaction in the brain something or other.

I might just be making this up. Sometimes I lie. But anyway, I'm glad that you and your mom didn't experience this.

But about the movie, I really have always liked it.

Oh, yeah. The movie. (Stop distracting me, Miss Cleeky Booyah! :fuming:fuming.gif )

I LOVE this movie. (My mom HATES it, but that's because of the soap thing.) Love the hillbilly dogs next door.

Here's something that'll blow yer mind: the kid who played Flick (tongue on the pole) grew up to become a PORN star. I am not making this up. Saw it on one of those "whatever became of . . . child star" shows.

Am I thinking about the right movie... didn't the kid sleep in the kitchen cabinet? I havent seen that movie in YEARS (I refuse to)... it could be a different movie I'm thinking of.

I really hate the turkey part too with the dogs...

and the sound of Ralphie stepping on his glasses...

I think the younger brother HID in the kitchen cabinet.

The whole Ralphie with the icicle incident is funny to me, because my honey has a scar from knocking down icicles when he was a kid -- one hit him in the head. He always says, 'Don't laugh! Those things can kill you!"

The best thing is to watch the movie with a man who was a kid in the late 1940s - so much of what's in that movie has them laughing in recognition and nostalgia.

But as a female who grew up in the late 1960s, I find it really funny too. Yes, some things make me cringe (don't touch the flag pole!), but I still laugh too.

ITA!! I watched this w/ my dad who was a kid during the time frame---he too, wanted a Red Ryder bb gun.

If you didn't grow up where there was snow in the winter you dont know what can happen when you touch your tongue to a flag pole, swing set, etc.

This is slightly off topic, but my fiance's grandpa really DID shoot his eye out with a BB Gun when he was kid.

He has a glass eye now. You can barely tell.

Once my dad and I were Christmas shopping and this movie was on outside of Suncoast. Some old man was watching it and laughing hysterically, and he kept trying to stop people and talk about it with them. Nobody was listening to him. It was sad. So we stopped for a while and talked to him.

I definitely do love this movie, but there's so many Christmas movies I love more...I like the older ones myself but A Christmas Story is definitely a classic in its own right!

Ah, well, if we're talking favorite Christmas movies, nothing beats the 1951 "A Christmas Carol" with Alastair Sim for me. I like "It's A Wonderful Life" too, but Alastair's my favorite.
