Default I need to get fit!

I would put this in the fitness thread, but does anyone go to any of theother threads any more?

anywho. i have always been a tiny little thing able to eat what ever i wanted as much as i wanted. I never really excercised, but I was a very active person. also moving and on the go. i have always tried to eat health just to be healthy. so over the pass few months, my job has changed which now requires me to sit on my butt all day. so im not as active. people are beginning to take notice on my weight gain. At first i thought my clothes were shrinking, but then i put on a outfit that is dryclean only, its a little snug. i always wanted to gain a few lbs so at first i was happy, unitl i realized where most of the lbs were going. to my belly! not good. i want to lost the belly with out losing all the other fat i have gained that is flattering ( I finally got a butt!! yes!) but i dont know the best excercises. everyone i talked to tells me i'm going to lost all the fat no better what i do. i dont want that because as i said, i finally got a butt!! i have no lose material on my jeans no more. i cant lose that.

So how can i lose the belly without losing my new booty? TIA!!

You can build muscle in your abdomen with exercise that *might* help it look flatter, but you cannot spot reduce. Sorry. When you lose fat you lose it from everywhere. And where it builds up and comes off first is completely dependent on they way your own body stores it.

However, if you work out your whole body you will build muscle on your butt too.

They say you can't spot reduce, but crunches can definitely give you a six pack. I've done it.

I"m going to work on building muscle and do some crutches. I cant lose my new booty. I'm filling out my jeans quite nicely.

i'll start on crutches tonight and see about joining a gym to work on the builing of the muscles.

IDK about abdominal fat but I need to start working this fat, flabby ass of mine off. Looking like a sack of wet laundry! No more!

You can't just do crunches to reduce belly fat, it is scientifically not going to happen. You can have the most rockin 6 pack goin on, it if you have a layer of fat over it you will not see it. Losing fat is losing fat. Accept the belly with the booty!

I have a similar problem. I've gained 10 lbs and I also sit a lot at work. I finally have a butt and I am loving it, but I've lost my waist. I just ordered a book from Amazon "Linda's Flat Stomach Secrets." It's suppose to include the best exercises and diet for the midsection. Who knows....it's worth a try. I also got a DVD called "Ballet Beautiful." I've only worked out with it once, but I could really feel it.

True.

Also, some people are predisposed to building good AB muscles. Others are not. There are plenty of people who could do crunches all day long and never get a six pack.

You could work toward losing fat (with diet) and build muscle in your glutes to keep your butt looking hot. :-)

LOL I meant "with your diet" more than "go on a diet," but yes with a scary calorie deficit. I'm on a cut, myself. It doesn't suck as bad as I thought.

I think it depends on how much belly fat she's got. Crunches would still tighten the muscle under any fat you have, and that could make the area look smaller. Toning isn't the same as spot reducing. I was probably way heavier than the OP but my abs were nice, although like someone said genetics are important too.

You can tell I'm being a big ole baby with this. i never have to worry about diets and excercise and such things. I always eat healthy. ie no fast food, lots of veggies and carbs that are good for you. I really cant eat greasy overly process foods because I will get sick. i love fried foods but too much of that also makes me ill. I love fresh baked goodies, but too sweet, my body is like "hell to the naw". i had always moved. I did soccer in middle school and ROTC in highschool so i had to do the excercises then. i also ran around alot with my nieces which is great excercise running after kids. then i got a job in the lab, where i never got to sat down. Now since july, i have been on my butt for at least 7 hours. i can feel myslef getting lazier. my work schedule has changed and i moved so i dont even get in my after work walks or my weekend walks around dc like i use to.

thanks everyone for your input. but i think it may be a good idea to cut back on the food atleast until i can become as active as i once was. when eating, i use to say,"you dont have to me hungry to eat. just eat until you pass out in your plate." i think i should change it.

This is what I was going to say. I don't think you need to worry about losing your new butt if you work on the muscle. Mine has always been small, but it looks better now than it did when I was 40 pounds heavier because of all the glute exercises I do.
