Lotsa, I do make my own, but I always have cornmeal on hand since we eat cornbread throughout the year. You should buy it from the bulk bin section if any groceries near you have one. You can just get the couple of cups that you'll need so none goes to waste. I've also seen fairly small boxes of cornmeal at my grocery so even if you have a little left, it's not such a huge waste.

Or maybe the bakery at your grocery has ready made cornbread or corn muffins that aren't sweet? I'd take that over the box mix any day, they're usually way too sweet.

I have done the bulk of my cooking all I have left for tomorrow is the faux roast. This was the last thing I made:

I also decided to make the apple pie

My pies are done. The only other thing I have to bring is beer. : )

I told myself I wouldn't bother with a dessert since our neighbors invited us over for that, but I couldn't help myself!

Maple pecan walnut pie with a shot of rum!

Just had our Thanksgiving. I made the turkey and it was my first and turned out pretty good. Also made pumpkin and apple pies and had some of both but I have been cutting sugar out of my diet and I found I really didn't enjoy the splurge. The rest of the meal was prepared by others and I didn't find anything I really liked. Husband and I agreed that next year our family would just have dinner at home alone.

Turkey is in the oven and it's starting to smell good around here!

I'm going to make rolls, which is probably a bad idea since yeast and I rarely get along. Cross your fingers for me!

We had a great turkey this year. You never know from year to year how good it will be. This had to be one of the best. In fact, everything was wonderful!!!

Why is it my turkey turned out GREAT the year we don't have company? It was so juicy and flavorful, thank goodness.

My rolls turned out really great too, which is unfortunate because I keep nibbling on them.

My food came out great. My company wasn't so much.

I felt they were a little rude, maybe ignored the fact that I put so much effort in and it wasn't even MY family I was doing it for.

Which reinforces the fact that I can't do holidays.

^ There is nothing worse than working like a dog and not having anyone notice or comment or give you some positive reinforcement.
My family is very vocal and demonstrative about such things so I'm always taken aback when I'm with folks who aren't that way. I honestly do not like cooking for people who don't enjoy food or have fun at the dinner table.

Thank you for saying that. I really need the empathy after all that.

Yes, I was very hurt. And disappointed. I'm over being angry, because I don't hold grudges, but I definitely won't put myself out like that again!

That stinks. I think is extremely rude not to acknowledge the effort of the cook. What happened to manners?

Mr Man, being such a sweetheart - I lost my nut the day after, I was pretty upset, and I told him how I felt, and I cried a little. I didn't want to make him mad, and I'm not a crier, but I had to get it off my chest. His way of responding to someone getting upset is to get pissed off.

Today he went to the store and bought another turkey b/c he wanted to cook another one - because did I mention his sister packed up all the leftovers for her and their mom? We were left with one small plate of turkey and like 30 lbs of stuffing - anyway, I know it was his way of trying to fix the situation. It was nice.

^ Ok, they took all your leftovers. I thought that only happened to me. I used to go to my then boyfriend's mom's house for Thanksgiving. My boyfriend and I would pay for and make the entire meal start to finish. And his mom would give ALL the leftovers to his sister. It used to boggle me.
But nice of the boy to get another turkey.
You can send some of your stuffing to me. I prefer it over everything else. Mmmm.

^ I know, bizarre right?

AND, sister took back most of the wine she brought! Left one unopened bottle of white in the fridge. I don't even drink white! I was so done with the whole day. I think she was stoned or something.

Did I mention nobody offered to help me clean up? Mr Man did after everyone left but I wouldn't let him. He paid for everything and cooked too.

Where did you get your faux roast? I got the Trader Joe's herb roast and while the stuffing was great I had to return it. The texture and taste was more like wet soy chicken. So I just went back and got the tofurky deli slices.

Wow Iroc, they'd fit right in with my aunt and her family. I don't do the majority of the cooking, but it still bothers me. They do at least rave about the food, but NEVER invite us over for holidays even when they cook. This year my mom and I expected it to be just us because they said they were cooking at their place (not that we were invited or anything), but Thanksgiving day they call saying they'll be by to pick up plates :0
