What would you name your daughter or son if you had one?
 

I would name my daughter Isabel and her nickname would be Izzy. I would name my son Eli.

I only have boys. If we had a girl her name would have been Ashlynn. I'm done having kids so if I got prego again I would name it "oh sh%t" lol

Isabela, Violeta, Alesandra, Elena, Lilia, Anisa, and in the "stupid, but I like it category", Azúl, Casandra, Camila, Leyla.

Alexis, Ethan (though it breaks my rule about names being plausible in English and Spanish), Alejandro, Alejo, Jaime, Mauro, Diego. I like the Portuguese version/equivalent of Juan much better. :lol:

if i had them -

Anastasia for a girl
William for a boy - maybe the Hungarian version Vilmos

that would also be if they had MY last name!

i'm a big believer in matching first names to family names. one of my cousins is Ashley and another is Sandra and neither one sound right with our name.

I do the same thing! I've always had a tough time coming up with names that I think could be pronounced correctly according to the rules of both languages. My name is Kyla (first part rhymes with pie) and Spanish speakers tend to pronounce it as Kee-lah. Which I hate. Grates on my ears.

I've always thought about Mia or Jasmin for a girl. I'd never thought of and really like Casandra and Leyla (but that one is too close to my name). And a side note, BF's adorable daughter's middle name is Anisa. I'd never heard it before I met her! She frequently refers to herself as Anisa. I definitely approve!

For boys, well, BF's name is Victor. So is his dad. And his older brother (who has a different father), so while I like the name, and would like to follow with tradition, there are just too many Victors in my life :lol:

William, oddly enough, is a very popular male name here in PR, and was also the name of my paternal grandfather, so I feel a connection there.

Other than that, I'm not a big fan of many male names common in Spanish. I tend to prefer names like Isaac, Nathan, Ethan.

Heh, my dad's name is Victor. Manuel is the middle name shared by him, my brother, and now my nephew. :lol:
You can use Isaac no problem in Spanish. Or Aaron. I like Adan, too.
I also like Soledad and Celeste. In the not so great in Spanish category is Vivienne.

There seems to be a theme in some families... Victor's mom and her two sisters are all named Maria, and go by their middle names.

I think it's hilarious she had her first son and (randomly?) named him Victor, and then along comes this man named Victor (Vitín) that she falls in love with, then has another baby boy and names him... Victor!

The Maria thing is definitely common. Juana is another common first name that either gets used in conjunction with a middle name or is dropped for the middle name. I'm not a fan of naming kids after their parents since it gets confusing.

Another girl would be Elaina Camille and another boy would be Myles Alexander. The boy was promised to me when I agreed to name our son the third.

I like biblical names for boys. Not for a religious reason, I just like how they sound, especially Jacob and Aaron. I also really like Elliot.

For girls I like Noa, Anna, Elana, and Emily.

Girl: Eva Marie.

Haven't thought about a boys' name.

João? Most people who speak Spanish and English would have a hard time with the nasal sound.

Boy: Nicholas or Nicolás
Girl: no idea

Yes, João, though of course it wouldn't work in Spanish since the J in Spanish doesn't sound the same. In English it kind of works. I just think João sounds much nicer than Juan.

Two more names I like: Magdalena and Amelia.

IF we ever had another baby:

Boy: Maxwell (would call him Max), Owen, or Henry
Girl: Marguerite (would call her Maggie)

My boys are Nicholas and Alexander. If they'd been girls they would have been Amelia and Eloise.
