Very Strange!
These two birds were on my deck dead this morning
The only thing I can think of is they both drank from a flower pot and got fertilizer, but that seems strange?

West Nile maybe? Or is it too cold for that where you are? Are there still mosquitoes out?

Is there a window front? Then they might have seen the landscape mirrored and flew into it

Too cold for Mosquitos. I'm just north of Toronto and we're pretty much below freezing every night.
My patio doors are there, but I have a canopy so they aren't that open. Maybe the upstairs windows, but twice?

Perhaps a cat got to them?
Their markings are pretty. Are they pigeons?

Those are cedar waxwings. They frequently run into windows and are killed, not sure why in this case.
As for why two of them at the same time, they tend to flock. Something probably startled them and they both started, flew away and slammed into the window.
Do you have feeders in your yard?
Top killer of birds is loss of habitats to mankind, and collisions with man-made structures. Not cats.

ummmm I took ornithology and we learned that cats are the number one reason, and my professor would state about how he hated cats because he loved birds. I dropped the class (jk but I vowed he was my mortal enemy)

Thanks, WH! There is a bedroom window above the deck, so the distance would make sense if they hit the window, then the canopy
I don't have feeders, do think that would help?

Not that they would help, only if you had, that may have been where (and why) they were gathered when they were startled. (If that's indeed what happened, that is.)
I had a cedar waxwing strike a big picture window at my home in Northern California. It was just as someone earlier described: it reflected the view of the valley and mountains perfectly, and I believe the bird thought he was flying into open air. I'm a birder and I always wanted to see a cedar waxwing -- they are so pretty -- but not like that! I put raptor decals up after that. No more strikes.
But if the window above you isn't like that, and this isn't a common occurrence (doesn't sound like it is), then it was likely just an unfortunate incident, sort of a freak accident.

There are houses behind me, but they are a ways and set quite lower, with lots of trees in front of them. I would imagine coming from the right angle, you would just see the sky and trees.

Perhaps some decals would be a good idea then, if the people living there don't mind it. They are fairly unobtrusive and can be placed along the edges of the window so they don't block the view.

A similar thing happened to me last week. I heard a few loud bangs/thuds outside my front door and didn't think too much of it. When I went to leave my house for the morning there was a dead bird right on my welcome mat.

Thanks for those!
I finally took a look at the window and saw a mark. One bird I understand, but it's just so sad that they were together

Sometimes they do get up and fly away after doing that.
I was at Ikea a few weeks ago and a bird flew into the window right next to where I was sitting. I didn't know what to do. It's eyes were open and it seemed to be aware but in shock. After about 10 minutes it hopped up and flew away. I was glad I didn't touch it.
