TNB,
Why did you start this tread? Curiousity? Personal issue you're dealing with? Or trying to pit ethics against morals just to see the reaction vs your own?

I have joked on here before, in a different thread, that I would pay to have sex with James Deen BUT the key word is joked. No. I can imagine all I want but I could actually never date or ... a porn star.

Long circuitous story...I was Googling pics of Indian bridal makeup and a pic of Sunny Leone came up. Turns out she was a porn actress. I noticed she was married, which got me to thinking.
I don't know what you mean about pitting ethics against morals...

Haha I googled her too recently! She was on an episode of one of those Say Yes to the Dress type shows and I kept thinking "She really looks Indian". Had never heard of her and turns out she's Indo-Canadian.

Ethics = society view, cultural
morals = religious view, political
I may be off in my understanding and I do not mind if that is pointed out. I want to explore my understanding and decision making. This is a very good topic and enlightening.

I don't really see ethics and morals as being at odds here. No one really mentioned ethics, by that definition.

No. I could date a guy who was a stripper in his past. Maybe a porn star in his past, but not so sure. I would think with American porn stars that they actually have a lower risk of STDs than ordinary people because they're tested frequently and they sleep with the same people. I would think strippers would have the same rate of STDs as the normal population.
What I couldn't deal with would be the "lifestyle." This may be judgmental but emotionally healthy people rarely do porn or strip (for long periods of time).

I used to be really open and understanding of ones past. After all, it is their past -
But giving people the benefit of the doubt when comes to my relationships always seems to bite me in the ass. I'm a little more strict about what I accept now.
I've given someone who was involved in an interesting lifestyle in their past the benefit of the doubt. I've given a recovered drug addict the benefit of the doubt. I felt that their past was the past and people can change.
Well, people do change, but only a little. That person who decided to get involved in that lifestyle, is still there. They may not currently live that life, but I'm not going to be compatible with someone who once considered living a life that way.

I couldn't date someone who was currently (or in the recent past) doing porn. The main reasons are probably that I'm not interested in the overall lifestyle, although I suppose the "lifestyle" might not be all that different than others imbedded in the entertainment and even night club businesses. I'd expect these people would just have a different idea of what's a fun way to spend their free time than me, and would be around too much sex and drugs and partying to have a good understanding of what's "normal" to me.
The next main reason is that I'd be grossed out at the thought of him having sec with others. I don't like to share. I wouldn't be jealous as much as just totally turned off and disgusted at the thought of what he did all day.
I'd also have an issue at the idea of bringing him around friends and family, and saying what he does! I'd be so embarrassed.
However, if a guy was a porn star when he was 18, but turned his life around and was living a mainstream life totally separate from that, I could come to terms with that. Everyone has a past. Stupid decisions someone made when they were young are ok with me, as long as the person has clearly gotten past it.

I wouldn't want to date/marry someone who was currently doing porn. The whole having sex with other people thing would get to me after awhile.
But if I liked/loved someone who USED to do porn I would date/marry them. I think I would have a harder time marrying a right wing conservative. : )

No because it's not something I think is okay or understand. I'm not even sure I could be friends with someone who does it. Maybe a very light acquaintance type friendship.

I wouldn't say, for me, that it's a problem of ethics or morals, but of shared values. I value fidelity, modesty, discretion, monogamy, privacy...so I'm not morally against someone being a pornstar, I just don't think I'd have anything in common with that person, nor would their lifestyle bring me any peace of mind.

This. I could see myself with someone who used to do it.
I could see dating someone who is currently doing it casually (hello James Deen) if I was not looking for serious commitment but I could not see being seriously involved with someone in that profession. Then again, like WhoMe? said, I don't think I would be happy seriously involved with someone who was in any sort of an entertainment/nightclub career. It would be an incompatible lifestyle for me, not just the sex but the hours, the public exposure in general.

I agree with this. I enjoy the night life environment but could not date someone who worked in it. Not the lifestyle I want my man to be around, no thank you. I like to enjoy it with my man though.

I couldn't even if it was in his past. I'm not judging. I just know I wouldn't be comfortable with it.

NO! It should also be noted that even though they get tested regularly, things can happen between testing. I mean sometimes the virus can be contracted and lies in wait (incubation?) until its good and ready to rear it's ugly head. So even with these so called std tests one can never be quite sure!

This is true for anyone not in a monogamous relationship (whether knowingly or not), so it doesn't really play into the equation for me.
