Default Entertaining style (food serving)

Do you have an "entertaining style"?

I'm trying to find mine, still. I tend to use a combo of baking implements, old dishes of my mom's, some things I've purchased from Pampered Chef, whatever. I haven't figured out how I like to present food to guests and what my personal style is for that - when I have a couple friends over at a time, it's very casual. I want to figure out what I want to collect/build up for less casual service.

Pictures are VERY welcome!

We either barbecue then do a buffet style meal, or we do a sit-down dinner served family style. The sit-down dinners are limited to ten as that's all we have room for at table. Buffet style...we had 70 people to one of our housewarming parties. It was insane. Never again! We usually have about 30 or so.

When we do a sit-down, I use my china which has serving bowls and gravy boats and even a matching salt and pepper. We use the good silver too. We sometimes have to delve into our everyday serving pieces - just depends on how crazy Felix goes with side dishes! I have a collection of glass bowls that I use for fruit and jello salads.

Either way, I do a dessert buffet type of situation on the sideboard - I usually make three or four desserts. I collect cake plates so I use those to present the desserts.

I am not a fan of big entertaining but Felix is, and since he cooks and basically does everything I just go along for the ride! I also always ask my bestie or my SIL or both to stick around and help with cleanup which makes that chore less onerous.

We don't do a lot of entertaining, but I love classic white serving pieces with no frills and the food always looks good on it. If I did a lot of entertaining I'd prefer to add color in things like the napkins, chargers, place mats or just the centerpiece so it's more economical. It's also nice not to be stuck with an entire set of serving pieces that I hate the color/pattern of in a few years, not to mention I'm not keen on sets of stuff and prefer things that feel collected over the years.

I grew up with all our family functions being buffet style and that's what I always lean towards, we're so casual it just feels right.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
