My Christmas gift

Lat year I wanted a Kindle Fire. Thought it would be nice to have a tablet and e-reader. BUT the main thing I wanted the e-reader for was to sit on the deck in the summer when my husband was golfing and read. Well, so much for that. . . you can't read the Kindle Fire outside. Therefore, this year I am getting a Kindle Paperwhite. If I had only known, I probably would have asked for the plain first edition e-reader to begin with. Oh well, Amazon is making money off of us

I'd like the paperwhite as well. I have the original 3G. This will be our third Kindle purchase in 3 years so Amazon is making good money from us too!

That's not good news. I wanted a Kindle to read all the free ebooks I keep downloading. So what is the best one to get for reading indoors and outside?

I have the 1st gen Kindle and it still works like a champ!

My brother has the $79 Kindle and my mom has the Kindle Touch, and both seem to be satisfied with their versatility.

Sarah is very right.

I own two Kindles (1st and 2nd gen. eInk) and an Ipad.
Reading on those two kindles is exactly like reading on paper (except no bulk). I LOVE them.
Ipad is (for me) the best for night reading.

I found this from a Kindle Fire HD review:

The Fire's screen now has a special coating that makes it easier to see outside and reduces glare. It's not as good as the regular E Ink Kindle under direct sunlight, but with the hot California sun beating down, it was much easier to see text and images on the Fire HD's display than on the Nexus or iPad.
