What's wrong with being a secretary?

i wanted to be the prez of the USA. I thought that was the coolest job ever. I thought the POTUS controlled everything. what he said, goes. i wanted that power!

i'm glad i found out otherwise before beginning a career in politics.

However, I tried out cashiering during training at work, and it was THE GREATEST THING EVER! I always find myself wistfully staring at the cashiers at work, like "omg, I wish I was you..." I think I'm the first and last person to do that.
The girl who rang up our humongo sale at Toys R Us this weekend mentioned how she loved going to the Children's Museum as a kid and play on the cash register and now she got to do it all the time! Which was awesome for us because we had 6 carts! It was our annual Toys 4 Tots run.

I wanted to be a school bus driver. I couldn't wait to drive when I was a kid. I used to pretend the grocery cart was the nose of a bus and I was driving it around the store. My first grade classroom had a parents day and they asked all the kids what they wanted to be. I was SO excited to say 'a school bus driver!!' and when I did I thought my mom was going to fall off her seat. My teacher laughed. I was embarrassed

But that's Hopkins. I think Josephine's parents were thinking secretary more like Jane Hathaway for Mr. Drysdale on the Beverly Hillbillies.

my supervisor was just telling me about a lady she knew who was a secretary more along those lines. She end up marrying her rich boss. She could had quit, but she stayed his secretary until they both retired.

No not sad for me. Sorry it offended you. Most receptionists in general dont make more than nurses and doctors, and of course it's not only about the money. If I had kids, i would not encourage or support them to be an office admin/receptionist/etc. If life ends up that way, nothing wrong with that either. And obviously sometimes it's not so bad.

I'm kind of feeling offended. My job isn't glamorous or exciting but why is it so poorly regarded? I have a fancy title but basically it's admin work.

That was when I was young and gorgeous and vampy. It was actually pretty glamorous and exciting, I must admit, but it was also tough, ferociously competitive and insecure. I traded that life in for life as a secretary, so that I could be sure of a paycheck every week. I'm probably oversensitive because I received such a s^itload of negative comments when I gave up acting for secretarial work, but now I'm financially secure - not rich, but safe, and I'm glad I made the switch.
