How much is good?

A very, very dear friend of mine (he held me in his arms when I was in the hospital after brain surgery and is one of my closest friends) is a gay man who is getting married to his partner of 30 years.

I just got an invitation to the wedding! I am so thrilled for my friend. His partner had been pushing for this marriage and for a long time my friend was unsure because he actually held the belief that marriage was between a man and a woman. I'm so glad that he has changed his mind. Believe me, they belong together.

The invitation had a request that in lieu of a gift, make a donation to the (wonderful) church where they will be married. Although I'm Jewish, I have been with my friend to this church several times and it is a very welcoming place. I will certainly make a donation, but my question is, what sum would make a nice wedding gift and do I tell my friend how much or just send it to the church with a note that it is in honor of their wedding?

Thanks for any tips on this! This really makes me happy.

Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Experimenting with cones & sulfates while the dews are high.
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
Awesome for your friend!!!
I'd say the donation should be in the amount you'd give for presentation. Depending on how close you are, that can be $50-$100 per person. If it was ME, I'd do $100 as it sounds like you're really close.
And as far as letting him know, I'd write in the card "A donation of $___ was made to ___ church in your names"
Enjoy the wedding!!

Thanks Narnia! That's perfect!

How lovely! Congratulations to your friend and his soon to be husband. I wish them a lifetime of happiness together. I agree with everything that Narnia said about the gift, and letting them know in a card.

Thanks for chiming in, TNB. I have to look at my finances. Glad to be getting ideas of what would be considered a nice present.

I think, because this is such a good friend, I'm going to go with $100, even if I have to scrimp a little elsewhere.
