Gun control: It's on all of us - CNN.com

A semiautomatic handgun can shoot 1,500 rounds in seven minutes if the magazines are loaded with multiple bullets. The Bushmaster M4 Types Carbine, a semiautomatic rifle, uses a 20 or 30-round magazine.

Professor Francis makes some excellent points in her article:

In the 1960s, everyday people, from maids to college students and church members, said "enough is enough" to the back of the bus, separate water fountains and segregated lunch counters. Nearly two decades later, a mother who lost her child to a drunken driver launched the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving and led the country to enduring cultural and legislative transformation to stop drunken driving and to institute stricter alcohol policies.

(...)

Yes, our elected officials must lead and we must hold them accountable if they don't. But we must do our part as well. We have to organize and shape public opinion to make it easier for the president and Congress to do what they must.

We can start by educating ourselves. Know what these weapons of mass destruction do, know who is trying to stop research on gun safety, know what organizations are pushing for more comprehensive bans. Once we're educated, we can educate our friends and families and build a groundswell, home by home, street by street and block by block.

Because that is what this is going to take. It's going to take all of us.

I have read and reread the 23 executive orders. I am just not seeing how those things are violating the second amendment and are grounds to impeach the president. Most of those seem like common sense things that we should be doing. Can someone feel me in this?

“Maybe instead of having a national gun buy-back program, the federal govt. could offer anyone who turns in a gun free penis enlargement surgery. The more assinine/unnecessarily powerful the gun, the more surgically added ****. So, if you turn in a sensible hunting rifle, you'd qualify for an extra centimeter of length or girth. But if you turn in 3 assault rifles, uncle Sam would sew on, basically, half a meter of horse ****. I think this might actually work! Thoughts?”

So I guess if a woman owns guns and participates in that buy back she'll get bigger boobs?

If we took that approach with things, automobile manufacturers should stop installing seat belts, the government should stop requiring them and law enforcement should stop ticketing people who don't use them. After all, seat belts don't save lives 100% of the time, so why bother?

I can see where you’re going with that, but I don't think the same phenomenon really applies to women.

Nor does it apply to a man just because he owns guns.

Sorry, I thought it was funny, with a sliver of truth. And it was never about all men, but certainly some men.

We don't need to agree on what's funny. You didn't like it, duly noted.

this article on CNN had me like this:

NRA's enemies list: Most of America - CNN.com

"...the list includes just about every major American faith group and denomination, every major ethnic group and voter constituency. And adding the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and National Spinal Cord Injury Association to the list of anti-gun enemies is either clueless or callous -- or both."

OMG! That girl needs help! its as sad as when paris hilton was telling her fans to vote and she wasnt even registered to vote herself.

Back to gun control:

i saw obama on cnn given his speech on gun control while i was at the doctor's waiting to get blood drawn and pee in a cup. everything he said made sense. background checks at gun shows- whats so horrible about that??? if you are an honest person why would you have an issue with this? magazines only being able to hold X amount of bullets- what's the problem? what normal person feel they need a clip that holds 50 or more bullets? honestly if your nieghborhood is that rough, instead of buying a gun take that money and invest in herself to get out on that neighborhood. And why do i see so many people saying things like, "he has people around him with guns all the time. apparently it makes him feel safe. why cant i feel safe?" are this people that messed up in the head that they dont understand why the president has secret sevice? and these arent just soem random people off the treat. they are trained to use them.

Jim Carrey responds to his critics:

Jim Carrey: I Never Wanted to Take Your Guns Away

And to the bullies who will try to marginalize and discredit me by saying, "Shut up, you're just an actor," while they brag about what a great president the ACTOR Ronald Reagan was, who threaten me with the demise of my acting career and much worse, I say SO BE IT! How shallow do they think I am? I would trade my money, my fame, my reputation and legacy if there were the slightest chance of preventing the anguish of another Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora, or Sandy Hook Elementary School. I ask you, truly, what manner of human being would not?

Well said, Ace!

The way people loose their minds over a mention of compromise is completely ridiculous.
