Yea, I thought the hornet's nest needed to be moved. I really don't want to see the other thread get locked.

Me, too. I hate guns. They scare me. My ex owned several and I was always afraid the kids would find them. He even had one in the glove box of his vehicle and took it when we went on trips. I could understand him wanting to protect us, but it was still scary. It will be interesting to find out if anything is going to finally change with this last incident. It has been of interest, but seems to be put on the back burner. Let's see what Obama proposes.

I think the point that many people on both sides miss is that "gun control" does not equal the complete eradication of the right to bear arms.
Personally, I think any weapon that fires more than one bullet without having to reload ought to be illegal for civilians/non-police/FBI/etc. I can't imagine why a civilian would need an automatic weapon.

I asked my friend, the mother of one of the boys who was killed here last year, if her feelings, or her husband's feelings, about guns had changed. She said "no." She blames people, not weapons, for the murders.
My feelings have changed, though. In fact, I'm selling my handgun asap. I was never strongly pro-gun, but now they seem like the instrument of choice for every madman.

He's one of the original 9/11 conspiracy theorists, and has become increasingly right wing over the past decade. Never thought a guy who accused Bush of staging the WTC/Pentagon attacks would be a hero of the Republican party, but we live in a parallel universe nowadays.

NRA in December:
"Violent video games are what cause these young men to go shoot up colleges/malls/movies/grade schools."
NRA in January:
"Here is a shoot-em-up video game for your pre-school toddler to play."
NRA's video game smacks of hypocrisy - CNN.com
and then there's this:
NRA airs new TV ad criticizing Obama on eve of White House gun announcement – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs
The National Rifle Association released a new television commercial Tuesday night charging President Barack Obama of hypocrisy for being "skeptical" about placing armed guards at schools, while his own two daughters are protected by the U.S. Secret Service.
uh huh....
how many threats are made against THIS president and his family every day????

how can one organization be allowed to have so much power? if the president wants gun control, why does he have to have meetings with them before moving forward? who's running this show?

I remember when people would just use their fists to fight. I remember watching a fight, 2 guys back in the '70s, using their fists. Then after about 10 minutes one pulled out a knife and everyone freaked out. Who pulls out a knife during a fist fight, people thought...
Now one would just pull out a gun before a fist were ever thrown and kill the other.
Something's wrong with this picture.

The NRA and the tobacco interests are way, way, way too strong. But they have big ol' deep pockets, so they can buy their politicians.

and its insane!! how can people be so afraid of socialism because they fear the gov having too much control? they are obvious nutty buddy in the head if they don't realize that big companies with deep pockets has control then they should. maybe if we got a little less capitalist and a little more socialist they wouldnt be able so powerful.
