A professional staffing service in my area is hosting a job posting for a position in a company of which they only divulge the basic industry of.

I'm responding to the posting through Careerbuilder.com's system. I have the option of adding a cover letter, and I am inclined to do one by basic answering-job-posting-convention, BUT...I don't know the name of the company, the address, and the description of the job itself is pretty general.

So I'm considering writing a brief, unconventional (addressee wise for sure) cover letter geared toward the company seeking an employee, and attaching that. It would almost be like just a little note accompanying my resume, however as its own file.

Sound smart or skip it?

I'd probably skip the cover letter. Also, be extra careful that you do not include any personal information besides name and email, maybe phone #--definitely not your home address.

Hmm. I do have my address on my resume. I can edit it out but have some reservation because I figure it would seem weird to most professional outlets to have it left off. Maybe that's an outdated thought though?

Are there postings like this (done by a middleman agency) that are known to be scams just fishing for people's info?

The staffing agency looks satisfactorily legit itself, judging by their site and reviews online.

Another potentially TMI area on my resume is mentioning where I currently work by the business name (which includes general location in it, and is itself the most straightforward way of describing what it is). If someone put it into google, they would easily find the exact location.

There aren't many of what we are period, so we're easy to find if you're looking, but I could amend that to a generic title for the business, like 'Bowling Alley.'

It was either the unemployment office or our outplacement company (or both) when my last company shut down local operations that said to never put anything more than email and phone number on online applications that aren't through specific companies. I wouldn't worry as much about my work location or company name as I would about my personal information.

There's a lot of fraud through careerbuilder and monster. I can't tell you how many spoof emails and fake job postings I've experienced through them.

Okay. Thanks for the input!

I wound up skipping a cover letter, and just put my city and state in place of my full address.

All in all when I consider the professionalism of the posting itself, what they got from me should be fine.

I haven't had my address on my resume for years. I put my email and my mobile - it isn't like they're going to send me a real paper letter or come visit me.

I've never sent a cover letter over to a temp agency. I was told by one I worked through a very long time that they hate them because they cannot or do not usually send the cover letter over to the employer looking for the temp because the ad was so generalized and vague. And the employers only wanted them to send over the resume's that they thought would be a good fit for the position.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
