Last week I had a phone book delivered to me. Today I got a call asking if I'd received my phone book. I haven't used a phone book in at least 10 years. Everything I need is on the interwebs somehow.

Are phone books worthless to you? Are they worthless society in general or do some rural places still use them?

Obamacare is not a blueprint for socialism. You're thinking of the New Testament. ~~ John Fugelsang

I find them worthless, but I do know of a few spots nearby that still have nothing but dial-up connections.
Worthless to me. Might be useful in a hotel in a small town.
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
Useless IMO. There are some YPs sitting in the corner of our apartment building lobby. I don't know why they still deliver them like this. They should print up a small run and if people want them they can request them. But YP is just killing trees now for no good reason. Sad seeing a company trying so hard to stay relevant.
No MAS.

I put the phone books in the recycle bin as soon as they are delivered. I think for those without internet, the phone book would be useful. Personally, I would not use a phone book to look up any business, service, or product. You can find out so much about a company's reputation, ratings, past customer's comments from the internet. Plus, I can look up their warranty and return policy.

I think they're useful for holding stuff up/propping doors

Useless, IMO. I haven't used phone books for about the last decade either. They do still deliver them to my building but I haven't picked them up in about that long either. There are a fair number of elderly residents in my building that may not have internet access, so that's who the books would primarily serve.

My dad is not an internet user. I put his local phone book in a drawer when we had some relatives over and my dad freaked out and was like ,"Where is my phone book?!?!?!" So I guess they are not totally obsolete.
I opt out of getting one, we don't have a need for it. I only realized this a few years ago when I kept shuffling a stack of phone books around and dusting them. I realized I have had them around my entire life and just never thought about not needing them.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

Useful. I use ours all the time. It's helpful to have around if the power goes out or electronic devices fail. Landlines will still work.

At least you guys still get Yellow Pages. We've been getting some knock off brand of phone book for at least the past 10 yrs. Like Yellow Book or Yellow Fingers?

I don't use Yellow. But I do like having the residential section of the White, tho.

Useless.

Like someone else said, they go straight into recycling at my house.

You can opt out of receiving them... I do.

I would say they are still useful, but people attempt to use me as 'information' non stop. 911 gets many calls (every single day) from people who do not want to pay to dial 411, and do not have internet. They obviously need a phone book
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I still use them, more the yellow pages than white and much less often than I used to, but I do still use them.
I think the elderly would probably still use them which makes me wonder why ours have shrunk so much over the last couple of years - the very people who are likely to use them are probably unable to see the teeny tiny print (I realise they're probably trying to save on paper).

I still use phone books at home and at work. I'll be able to live without them when they decide to no longer print them, but I still find them quick and convenient.

The last time I recall using a phone book, our power had gone out, and so we did not have internet access. Wanting to know how long to expect the power to be out, I found the power company's number in the yellow pages. So, I called, using my cell because the house cordless wasn't working, either, only to learn that the company would not take my call because my cell phone's area code is not "local." (I got this number 16 years and two houses/states ago)

Lesson learned: keep a phone book around, and just one old fashioned/not cordless phone in the house, just in case! (that's assuming you have a landline)
