Default Paypal changes

Have any of you tried to add funds to your paypal account this week? I did and found that they are requiring documents confirming identity, address, and social security number before you can add any more funds to your account as of 12/31/12. I am not thrilled with this change. My scanner is not working right now and my social security card is in my safety deposit box. I did forward them a copy of my utility bill to confirm address, but copies of my drivers licence and ss card will be more difficult.

PayPal isn't asking me for this information. Do you have a verified bank account linked to your PayPal account? Do you use PayPal to transfer large amounts of money? This is probably more to do with the Patriot Act than PayPal.

I do have a verified bank account linked and I do not transfer large amounts of money back and forth. I actually very seldom move any money at all. I just tried to add a relatively small amount to my account last night. Maybe I hadn't noticed the change since I haven't done this in awhile. Paypal mentioned some new federal regulations that occurred in April. Could that be related to the Patriot Act? This really surprised me. Have you provided them with documents verifying your personal identity - such as your drivers licence or passport - in the recent past?

Nope, never.

Ok, just one more question if that's ok? Have you tried to add funds to your account from a bank account recently? That was the only thing that triggered paypal's requests - and I used the verified account for the transfer. I have used paypal to purchase several times recently with no problem.

I haven't made a transfer since earlier last month, but I use PayPal for regular transfers among my accounts. I've never been prompted to do this. Are you sure it's the secured PayPal site? May be phishing....

Here's a thread about verifying account. Paypal wants me to verify my account? I had to do it about two weeks ago. It was for security reasons--I got an email that my account was "frozen" and I had to provide documents. Didn't result from anything that I did (like transfer money.)

Thanks for that thread link, Kathy. I never received an email, I just tried to add funds at the website. No phishing involved. They stated there were some changes in federal regulations last April that preceded this. I will call them instead of going though all the scanning hassle. I do appreciate Paypal's efforts at security.
