Default Relocating/ Moving to Atlanta

Hi ladies,

Just an FYI, I've been applying to position in Atlanta for a few months now and have done two interviews. After the first interview I received a call back, and they have sent my documents to their HR department. It's a government position so the hiring process is taking a little longer than anticipated, but according to them my name is the only one listed for the position. I would be moving with my boyfriend of 10 years (currently he's applying to various fellowships and positions but hasn't heard back yet).

Anyway, the position would be in downtown ATL and I've been looking at apartments in the Chattahoochee River area and Smyrna/ Vinings area. For those of you who live in or around ATL, what can you tell me about the two areas? Are they safe, overall pricey, etc.? Any apartment complexes you would recommend?

The apartments I've been looking at are in the $800 to $900 range for a two bedroom, which isn't bad based on the salary range of my positions (plus we both have some money saved up until he also gets a job in the area).

Hopefully I'll get notified soon, because I am really ready for a change. Also, it would be the first time either of us lives away from home and together. Eep! Any advice would be great!

I have two friends that live in Smyna. One loves their complex (Gated) and the other one doesn't (not gated). I will try to get the names of both for you.

Smyrna/Vinings area is a safe area and Vinings is nice with a cute 'downtown' area. From what I understand it's more of a single or young couples area. It's also not too far from the city which is nice. I don't know any particular apartments. 800-900 for a 2 bedroom is really good but I'm guesing normal for that area. In town its much more for a nice one bedroom.

Thanks Josephine! That helps me out a lot. What other areas do you like?

I prefer living in town, Midtown or Buckhead. Currently I live in Buckhead because it's cheaper than midtown. When I go out it's mostly in the city. I grew up in the burbs so I don't have interest living outside the city but if you do, Vinings/Smyrna is good. Vinings is actually pretty close to buckhead too. I've heard Johns Creek is good but still too far from me and more of a family area.

Parts of Decatur would be my preference as well although Decatur is not right off a major highway but I like the area better. It's also close the Va Highlands/Emory area which has nice areas to hang out in.

I know people who live in Buckhead, Midtown, and Smyrna/Vinings. I have to say I also preferred Midtown, but Smyrna is nice.
