new Biggest Loser w/ kids this season

jillian's back. there's kids but i hear they won't be weighing. starts tonight. anyone watching? i am, unless it gets crazy!

Andrea 01-06-2013 06:17 PM

I'll be watching! It's on tomorrow night also, same time as The Bachelor. I'm not sure what I will watch tomorrow. I'm hoping Monday isn't going to be the normal night that it's on.

goldy 01-06-2013 06:30 PM

I plan to watch. Usually my husband & I watch together, but he's at work tonight :( It's on 9-11 tonight, so I might just wait to watch it later this week.

I'm going to watch! I always start watching, and then lose interest about half way through since I get distracted by The Bachelor ;)

How will the kids be eliminated if they won't be weighing?

Will it just be an off camera thing so that there isn't as much embarrassment? I know kids take things like that harder than adults so that makes sense.

Another good idea would just be to let the kids stay the entire time. No need for the health of a child to be determined by whether or not they were kicked off of a TV show. Besides, younger people usually make awesome before/after weight loss transformations so it would make for great TV anyway.

I remember a previous contestant was interviewed by some magazine saying that the producers and trainers on the show sometimes go overboard with losing weight to the point of being unhealthy just so the contestants lose the greatest amount. If that is true, I hope they have sense often to treat the children differently. Not that they should be treating the adults that way either....

I might tune in. I haven't watched in years though. Seeing what happens with the kids might be of interest to me.

The kids are not being eliminated.

If I had to listen to Jillian that much, I'd be a quitter too.

I stayed up & watched.

I cried at elimination :( I was really rooting for that person.

Totally missed this....is it the same as the adult version (hours of exercise daily, calorie counting)? Is there elimination after all? How old are the kids?

This has the potential to be really, really awful. The Biggest Loser model is not a good way to approach weight loss IMO it looks dangerous and unsustainable. Not to mention kids are just developing their views of weight and eating.....I could see this (really ANY severe dieting in childhood) as possibly triggering eating disorders or at LEAST food issues. I also hate to see kids on treadmills and things all day - exercise for kids should come in the form of playing tag till you drop, and swimming and racing and sports and riding real bikes outside.

Also is there still the money aspect to this? That seems like a lot of pressure to put on kids (if you don't lose weight, your family won't get this money! You must win for your family!)

The again I haven't seen the show so maybe they've altered it and none of this is an issue....

goldy 01-07-2013 12:07 PM

The kids are essentially just a side story. It's still regular biggest loser with one kid per team. However, the kids do not exercise with the adults, live with the adults, or weigh-in. There are no eliminations for the kids. The kids did compete in the challenge, though they played a different role than the adults in the challenge.

naturaldoll 01-07-2013 12:08 PM

the kids arent eliminated and dont really play the game. there are only 3 and they played baseball while the adults were on treadmills. they dont get weighed.

who was eliminated, my bf made me turn off the tv. it wasnt tc was it?

Yep.

I watched. I'll continue to watch unless it reverts to the way it was last season. I don't see that happening, though, since there was such a backlash.

So far, I like what they're doing with the kids.

jeepcurlygurl 01-07-2013 04:42 PM

I almost never watch reality tv shows but my sister loves them all so I watch some with her when she asks me too. I won't watch this every week (I find the eliminations so sad) but I am interested in how they are going to work with these kids. How will they get them away from the junk food and get them outside and get them away from tv and video games. It seems like a nearly impossible task nowadays.

luvmylocs 01-08-2013 09:14 AM

i know jillian gets results but my goodness she's harsh. i like bob and dolvett's styles a bit better. i think you can be harsh with people but not out the gate with people who are so majorly deconditioned. i felt bad that the one girl quit and i also felt sad that tc had to go. perhaps they should have let him stay since one girl quit. it'll be interesting. i like learning about the exercise, nutrition and psychology of weight loss but i could do without the extreme trash talking jillian does. btw, i have several of her videos and she really is good. hopefully she'll tone it down a little!
