Well, obviously you know it can. As to why? You should be asking a doc, not us, LOL!
If you're still feeling like you're choking and having difficulty swallowing or breathing, yes, you should go to an ER or at least an urgent care clinic - there are plenty of those around nowadays where you don't have to have an appointment. Tell them you're having difficulty breathing, and you should be seen right away.
Hope you find out the problem and resolve it soon. Meanwhile, if gargling with salt water helped, soups, teas and other hot liquids probably will, too.

i'm feeling fine and i'm not choking or anything. i still havent gotten through to the doctors office. i have talked to a few of my supervisors and they got big eyed when i told them about it. they dont know why that happened, but of course its not their field. it puzzles them that it swelled up so much but then went down so fast.
i'm drinking tea with honey right now. and have soup for lunch.

Thought you were feeling like you were choking because of your comment about the Heimlich Maneuver . . . Glad you're feeling OK now!

Got curious and found this - lots more out there, but this one seemed most helpful and more detailed than most. Most everything here and elsewhere mentions dehydration as one of the most likely causes!?
 . . . feel better!

i hope you feel better
I had a sore throat for a year. It felt more swollen than sore. Turns out it as an allergy. Is it possible that you are allergic to something?
I'm having systems right now and it definitely swelling (not soreness) and it is annoying
I hope you get it figured out

thanks the the link!
i got throught to the doctor's office and made an appointment. i was told alot of the stuff in the article! because i dont have a fever or any other syptoms that could indicate an infection i was told i should be able to wait until the appointment. i should continue with drinking warm liquids, gargling with salt water, and take and antiflammation medicine. if it gets worst i am to go to the er.
its really scary when it happened because i never knew your uvula could look like that. its kinda gross.

i was asked if i have any type of allergies. as far as i know of i have none. well, besides pollen during allergy season. it was recommended that i could try taking an allergy med just in case it is an allergic reaction. i will probably have an allergy test done.
and thanks, i hope i get some answers too!

Please tell me I wasn't the only one thinking 'how does your vulva try to kill you?'

You weren't the only one. Ugh, now picturing someone being choked by huge swollen vulva.

I had my uvula and some soft palate removed because it was obstructing my airway. Not fun!
Hope yours is behaving now

First and foremost I'm glad you were able to get an appt. and I hope it doesn't get worse causing you a trip to the ER. That's terribly scary!
But... I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who had to do a double take when reading the thread title.

just an FYI, i turned out to be allergic to something not even listed in the ingredients list. I was just lucky that the allergist thought to include it in my test.
Has this ever happened before? Is there anything similiar in what you've been eating lately? Corn? Sugary? all the same color?

i don't think it has happened before. but now i'm wondering if it had and i just didn't realize because it wasn't so bad i couldn't breath. my diet really hasn't changed much recently.
i have to admit i'm a tiny bit relieved because i thought i was getting the flu and the sore throat was just the first sign. hopefully its nothing serious. i'll keep everyone posted.

I just wanted to check if I was the only one who kept reading this as 'my vulva is trying to kill me'.
Carry on.
