She came out a long time ago, to her family, friends and co workers, etc. She gave a fantastic speech (at the globes) about the lack of privacy now and how the public now expects a press conference to be given on your personal and private life.

*and she also did a mini side rant about needing a reality tv show and perfume now, aka sucking all the talent, art, and privacy out of her 47 year career.

Totally different. Tom Cruise is denying and actively saying he is straight, marrying women, etc.

Jodie Foster is out with her family and friends, and was openly in a relationship with a woman, and openly chose to raise children with a woman partner. She simply has not said publicly "I am gay". And why should she have to? She is openly living her life. Not hiding, not denying. It doesn't need an announcement to the world any more than a woman married to a man with children by that man needs to cone out and publicly announce that she is straight.

She has been openly living her life and felt no need to out right say anything other than to those she knows, years ago.

Yeah, all this is based on the assumption that he's gay, and publicly acting and declaring he's straight. Basically, living a lie. If he is gay, that's what Tom Cruise is doing. Totally different than the way Jodi Foster is living her life. She's totally out and living her life as who she is. She simply hasn't made a big public statement about it.

I think jodie was always out to those important to her. You she was getting it on with is no ones business but her own. She didnt have to tell me, becuse she doesnt know me.

For her (or any celebrity) to have to make an annoucement of their sexual orientation, is the same as me (or any unfamous person) going up to strangers and telling them i'm straight (or gay).

I personally feel it's wrong to assert that someone is gay when they assert that they aren't (Tom Cruise). What if someone did that to a known gay person? It's their sexuality so I take their word for it since it's not much of my business anyway.

I'm glad that by saying nothing, really, Jodie Foster said a whole lot.
If we truly want equality, we need to reach the point where no one ever feels the need to make an announcement about anything so personal.
Then, we will know that as a culture, we have finally evolved.
