After Prom Ideas

My cousins just called and asked if I could give them some advice as an "older person" for their after prom. After I got on her for calling me "older", I agreed to help, LOL. I guess this means I'm young enough to still know how to party but old enough to help plan.

At this point, all I know is that they are renting a party center. I know we will have to worry about chaperones and things of the sort, but what else?

Any ideas? What did you did? what did your kids do? I need both sides of the coin (responsible side and the fun side)

TIA
I don't have any good suggestions, because our high school sponsored a big all night party. I'd say at least 3/4 of the kids that went to prom went to it - only the really big drinkers didn't.

They rented out a big rec/athletic center at a nearby college, and had all sorts of random things for entertainment - inflatable jousting/slides/etc (basically the big person equivalent to getting bouncy castles), a ton of food, massages, some places to get stupid pictures of yourself taken, we could swim if we wanted to (I never did), they had a hypnotist come do a show....all sorts of crap. One of the bigger draws was a raffle with a ton of good prizes (like, people won small electronics like TVs and CD players (it was the late 90s, ha), all sorts of gift certificates to local businesses, etc.

I went to seven proms in high school. The options for after were house parties or hotel parties. House parties were usually coed "slumber" parties with parents in the house, and the hotel parties were drinking and getting wild.

I went to a hotel for the parties there. IIRC there were many parties going on at the same hotel. I hung out for a little while with my date. I don't remember drinking. My date then took me home and I think he went back to party.

I only went to my senior prom.
We went out to eat afterwards at a 24 hour diner. Then we had a "slumber" party at a friend's mom's house. She wasn't there...
There were a lot of hotel parties too.

I went to the prom in the early/mid 80s. There were no formally planned events. Jr Prom, I went to a party at a friends house. We all just hung out in our formalwear. parents were present. Sr. Prom 1 and Sr. Prom 2 we went to the beach. We thought we were pretty cool, but didn't do anything to get us in trouble.

I really like that these events are planned to keep the kids safe.

One girl had a farm. Her parents charged people $10, had a ton of food and drinks (people brought alcohol, her parents didn't supply it lol), porta-pottis & gazebo type tents.

Pretty much everyone went there, brought tents and stayed the night.

My school just had parties at people's houses afterwards- mostly sleepovers an alcohol depending on who hosted.

Our prom in general was a little more aimed to talking and eating than just dancing, though. We had dinner there and they set up tables for casino games.

There were no formal parties after any of the proms I went to. After my senior prom, like others have said, we had a co-Ed slumber party at my date's house. There was alcohol, but his parents were home and nothing crazy happened, at least between us. I guess I can't say that about the other couples for sure, lol.

After graduation, though, my school hosted a grad nite where pretty much everyone stayed overnight at the school instead of going out to independent parties. There were:

- all kinds of games (ping pong, pool, etc).
- a "tattoo artist" (paint on).
- casino tables with pretend money.
- various food - fresh made fried dough, slushies, etc (the kind of stuff you might get at a theme park)
- those blow up/bounce house things - one was just for jumping and one was like an obstacle course
- and we had a theme - "Hollywood nights" (very lame, IMO), so there were all kinds of decorations/props around for photo ops
- the school also got local businesses to donate things to little goodie bags that had overnight "comfort" items (socks, tooth brush/tooth paste, pens for yearbook signing, etc)
It was drinking and debauchery in my neck of the woods. Former graduates always had huge keggers.

That or Dungeons and Dragons and fruit punch.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

Mine prom after parties were pretty tame.

Junior year: Took my (loser) date home, and drove to my friend's house to sleep over. About 5 of us friends, all girls, drank wine coolers and went to sleep. We weren't even remotely drunk.

Senior year: Same friend from jr. year had her mom rent two rooms at a nice hotel and a limo (it was my right around my friend's birthday, so that was her present from her mom). We left prom and took the limo the hotel, her mom had stocked the two adjoining rooms with lots of food. My friend had alcohol in her car parked in the hotel's garage but we never got around to going to get and drink it. Several friends filtered in and out of the rooms while we watched movies, then I went to sleep while a few other girls stayed up and roamed around the hotel. The only guy who stayed over was a friend's boyfriend. There's a really cute picture of all us from the next morning drinking Starbucks. All in all, really tame.
