I have pet names that I use when I talk to my kids, but not when I am talking about my kids.

My daughter S has a very common first name and in her saxophone section in the high school band, she was 1 of 3! Since she was the youngest one, they gave her a nickname that she loves. She's now well into her second year of high school and her English teacher wrote me a note about how great she was doing and referred to her as the nickname. I, of course, knew who she was talking about, but it caught me off guard.
Yes, I sometimes call mine by their nicknames when we're around other ppl. The little gets mad and always corrects me. The older one doesn't care.

But no, I would not expect other ppl to call them or refer to them by those nicknames. That's just weird! They can make up their own nicknames for them. LOL

I've been called 'Baba' by my mother since the day I was born...I think I will be called the nickname forever!

My Dad & Brother have nicknames for me, but I think they would confuse others outside of the family if they heard them.

My Grandparents call me Jeffy or Jeffiner (my Grandfather was in the hospital when I was little and I misspelled my name on the card, 25 years later and I can't think of them ever calling me by by my real name!) and any friend or family they would say that to would know it was me

I'll sometimes call them Sissy-Pants and Poopie-Bear around their friends if I'm trying to embarrass them. It works...
Yes since the nicknames we have for them are just shortened versions of their names but only close family call them by their nicknames my oldest gets pissed if someone who isn't family calls him by his nickname.

Lucas is called Luke by all the family and Lukey by close family/friends. That isn't so wierd. Pretty normal for his name. The funny thing is at school by his teachers and school friends he is known as Lucas and not Luke. He has never minded being called by any of those three. If I were him I'd get confused .

I call Ivy Iv or Sis. Only me. Is it wierd that she's my daughter and I'm the only one who calls her Sis? It's shortened from Sissy which is how I referred to her when Luke was a baby. The nickname never stuck with him but it did with me.

I also call Ivy Pretty Face and Miss Priss. Never in front of her friends though. She's 12 and would be mortified.

Never. Sometimes it might slip out but I try not to. My son is almost 13 and I dont want to embarrass him. I call him Moon or Moony. It started as "mi muneco" (my teddy bear in spanish) when he little. Then it was "mi muni".. now its just "My Moon", "moon", or "moony". And he loves it...but not outside of our house. Lol
My daughter is 21 and I call her Mima. She is so used to that, she doesn't mind if I say it around others but I try not, thats our "thing" I guess so I like to keep it that way. That just started when she was little and started calling me Mami...i turned it around and called her Mima.. And it just stuck.

I don't have any kids but in my family we have tons of nicknames. I didn't even know some of my aunts and uncles real names until a couple of years ago!
I have at least 60 for my sister lol she has about the same for me, I have some for my hubby but I don't call him by his nickname unless we are around family who already know it, I would never refer to him by his nick name in front of our friends especially not his friends...they might never let him live it down. And I don't use it in public around other people for his benefit.

I have some for my parents too but I'm pretty sure they mean mom and dad in Greek and ....one sounds Russian I could be totally wrong about that and have no idea where I picked them up but they sound cool to me so I use them sometimes and they don't seem to mind.
My dad has nicknames for everyone...they are Hindi nick names and yes they are totally embarrassing and yes he says them in public.
I have nicknames for my son but only use them around family, never in public. He'll be 16 soon and would crawl under a rock if I called him Monkey Boy or any of the other nicknames in public. LOL

when I was a baby, my mom decided I looked like Betty Boop (because of my dark curls and big eyes) and that nickname has never left me lol every family member and friend calls me Boops, or Boopsie, or sometimes Boopsalina if it's my sister calling me...and yes, they always shout that nickname in public lol I love it and it makes me feel loved

My Mom and Aunt call me by my nickname when they are speaking to me or calling me but when refering to me they use my real name.
My youngest stepdaughter is in her twenties but I will still sometimes call her Peanut or Poopers, alone or in public. It doesn't phase her at all.

I called my brother by his nickname ("Cheesefood") at the grocery store, and he blew a gasket.

Law school took his sense of humor and wrung it out like a wet sponge.

Son :
Cutie, Flaco, Green One, Cute , Chuchin,

Stepdaughter: Pink One, Cutie, and BF calls her Widdy.

Actually, I call all my nieces and nephew Chuchin.

When I talk about them I often refer of them as The Pink One and The Green One.
This name stuck because when I first met her I bought her a pink pajama and he had sort of the same material one in green, which they often wore when they were 6,
