Are we sure Pistorius has a history of domestic violence? Or was it just a comment made by a police officer to the cameras? I haven't read enough.

The situation is horrible, and either way its so incredibly sad for her friends and family. SA is a pretty scary place though, and I can easily see that being the reaction if he really thought it was an intruder.

Must agree with Curly Canadian though, SA is by all accounts an scary place to be.

It's scary that the victim was so involved with ending violence against women, yet she was in an abusive relationship for a few months. Was she in denial? She seems old enough (29 or 30) to recognize the signs, given her cause and past modeling career. Maybe she tried breaking up with him this time? I'm not blaming her for him shooting her. I just find it crazy that she stayed with him since she was championing other people to end violence against women. The media I've heard makes it seem as if he is the violent one - not her.

what could have been so bad to make him do this? i cringe when i see her last tweets about being happy about v-day and for him to kill her today. terrible! i hope he comes clean and tells the truth especially for her family's sake.

What if he believed her to be an intruder?

I remember the story of another south African who shot an 'intruder' who he believed was about to steal his daughter's car in the drive way . Turns out the person he shot dead was his own daughter who was going to surprise her boyfriend.

When people don't just come to rob , but torture and rape in the process, I'd have a gun too.

The story is still incomplete anyway , what's the motive ? Didn't he hear her scream after the first shot ?

It is a sad story all round , and I Trully hope it was an accident

Re the NRA, that is a scary thought.

We stayed in Stellenbosch (just outside of Cape Town) for about a week. Very nice little town, vineyards, craft fairs, a University, lots of great little cafes and restaurants.

The friends we stayed with lived in a gated community. To get into their house (after you got through the gates into the neighborhood), you went through a gate into the yard to park your car, then another to the back yard. Another to get into the house front of the house, then you walked down a hallway and finally through a last gate before actually getting into the living part of the house. These were all number pad locks.

We were told not to stop for cops on the side of the road because chances were it wasn't cops driving.

A friend who lives in Jo-Burg was in a home invasion on her wedding day. Her, the groom and there wedding party were robbed, tied up and left.

Saying that, the police seemed to have dropped the intruder story and believe it was intentional. I could easily see how it could happen if he truly thought it were an intruder.

I think CC and RCW are both right from what I understand from about South Africa.

Yes, it is much more unsafe than the US; however, South Africa is quite well-known throughout Africa for its American-style "gun culture".

for those more familiar with south african culture. would there be any good reason to frame this guy? they are already jumping to premeditated murder. seems sudden so you wonder what evidence they have.

not to open up a whole big can of worms but...the victim was a beautiful young white woman who seemed genuinely good, all bets are off with certain victims. his fame might not be able to get him out of this one if it was premeditated.

my goodness i wonder what he will say happened? the facts don't add up so far. like ladyv69 asked i wondered if she yelled his name when the first shot happened. to shoot her in the head and arm required semi close contact. she's tall white and blond, how could he not see she didn't look like an attacker? i'm just confused.

I heard today that he shot her through the bathroom door. I don't know how true that is, but that's pretty f'ed up.

As for him buying his way out of the charges, with the whole world watching I'm not so sure. If he were rich but not famous, then I think that would definitely be a possibility.
If you got nothing to bring to the table - don't even bother sitting down.
No clue how random it may be, but the cops may figure its a quick pay off to charge him right away?

It's a very corrupt country though. A friend from SA was visiting me for a few weeks and rented a car. She paid cash, but they wanted a Credit card number anyways. She had a fit that they were going to charge it anyways. It took us forever to convince her that wouldn't happen.

She has moved to England because she doesn't want to raise her kids there. She has slept with a gun since she was 7 and doesn't want her kids to grow up that way.
