I have no tv because I cant afford cable. What options, if any, are there for cheap internet access?

I'm at home posting on my phone, but it's a Straight Talk phone and there's no "wifi hotspot" option at all. There was with my Sprint phone, but I still didn't know how to use it. In any event, I had to drop Sprint altogether bc I just couldn't afford the bill anymore.

My knowledge is very limited. We don't mind not having a tv but it'd be nice if I had internet. Thanks in advance.

I know AT&T offers dsl without a phone line. I don't know the costs but that's worth looking into.

For cheap internet service on your phone, I use Virgin Mobile. You can get a data plan unlimited for $40/month.
You have to buy the phone but it is worth it in the long run. Just don't lose your phone!
You can get a phone that is also a hot spot (Samsung Galaxy 2) , or you can buy one cheaper without it. They also have the iphone.

check it out at Radio Shack or at walmart or online.

I second Virgin Mobile! I use them.

They are a Sprint subsidiary, so they use Sprint towers. I use a pay-as-you-go plan. It has 300 minutes and unlimited texting and data (internet). I'm locked into a kind of old plan, so I pay $25 + tax ($27.65) a month. I think they've updated the price to $35 + tax.

I believe they also offer an air card for your computer for $30-40/month.

My brother uses a mobile hotspot from Verizon. He's very happy with it (although it is not his primary internet connection, he uses it when he's on the road). It's something similar to this, about $20 a month. Be careful not to go over your monthly usage! Not good for streaming movies.

It's just that I just got this phone (Straight Talk) . I really wish I had gone with Virgin. But this phone was an exchange for a defective Straight Talk phone purchased online.....so the window period for full refund/exchange was very small. And I was so broke at the time that I couldn't afford what I really wanted.

There was a particular Virgin Mobile handset that I really, REALLY wanted.....I should've held out till next payday, but I was afraid I wouldn't have the money to spare then, either.

Thanks for the link. Will definitely check it out.

I assumed it was pretty well-known...it's been around for at least 12 years, maybe longer? The full name is/was Wide Open West but now everyone calls it WOW. It's advertised on tv...the claim to fame is that the customer service is really good.
