I was having a slow day so I surfed around and my boss came out of his office unexpectedly and clearly saw that I was laughing at cartoons. I was so involved he had to say my name for me to notice him. How bad do you think that is?

If I were busier I wouldn't fool around but it's very tempting when it is slow. I felt very anxious afterwards. Comments?

Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,

Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.

I guess it depends on the atmosphere of your office and your boss.

My office is casual and my boss is fairly casual. Everyone surfs from time to time but sometimes he takes it seriously and other times not. We often find him sitting in his office looking up stupid things online so he can't really be too upset with us when we do it. My coworker has an exact science on how to surf Facebook without getting caught. I'm not that savvy but try to keep my Internet time to when he isn't around. It doesn't help that his office is directly across from where I sit

I know surfing is unprofessional overall but I think lots of people are guilty of it at some point.

because of the nature of my work I'm on the internet all the time. I'm frequently calling my boss to come look at some silly video or another.

I've never seen my boss surfing.

Hopefully, he lives enough in the real world to know that we all do it from time to time.

Thanks for responding.

I think it depends on your office atmosphere as well.

I know other offices in my building has been banned from non official internet use because it was hindering some employee's job performance. That I can see having a problem with.

In my office it's a different ball game. We don't have constant busy work or paper work. We wait for phones to ring, handle it, and wait for them to ring again. We have spare computers that are loaded with games. We would use them for entertainment purposes, and con ed. You have to keep yourself awake for 12 hours a day or night, so we were expected to play and keep ourselves entertained. Falling asleep is the one true evil. After the ban in other offices, one IT employee (the one who has been there the longest) didn't want us using county internet for fun so he took down every computer but one. The other IT employees fixed the office up so we could bring our lap tops. *smh* No one has had a problem with that.

Some people have thrown fits because we have two TV's. They can get over it. Those are needed as well. We can mute the tv or step away from a game, do the job, and go back to it.

*I guess I should say my boss it fine with it, as long as you're still doing the job. That's all that matters. At times you can play, at times you're so busy you can't even look up. You never know. He plans to put a tv at every station if we ever get a new office. People can be jelly, and get over it.

Thanks for the detailed response Fifi. I won't do it again unless I am sure he is out of the office. Fortunately, he knows that I jump to do whatever he needs immediately. It's just the type of job that's up and down, and during down times I have to find ways to keep busy.

In my last job there wasn't a down 5 minutes! but this job is less pressured.

I appreciate all the responses. I'm trying not to beat myself up too hard for it.

remember, with all advice or suggestions for your hair, YMMV!!
My hair:
2b wavy, medium texture, low porosity, med-high density. Protein finicky.
My routine:
Cleansing: DCNP, every 4-5 days (occasionally use CJ cleansers).
RO: CJSC, occasionally use JCDC
LI: KCKT or CJSL
Gel: KCCC, CJCIAB for 2nd day hair (sometimes third)

Heat is my friend: warm water rinses, steam caps, and diffuse dry. I love CLU cloths and my Denman.

I've worked many jobs with no internet, and/or no hope of getting on the internet for any reason other than work. It truly does just depend on the circumstances.

Haha. When you have spent several hours working death, doom and gloom, being able to decompress (if only for a minute) while watching crap tv or playing a game is needed distraction. It's a nice escape in-between demands, and really nice at 3am on nights when all is the Q word.

One more thing and then I will ssshhhh.

I find it funny when people fuss about our tv's or spare computers. It's always the same ones. It's people who have mobile jobs. They get lunch breaks, they can walk around, they can drive around, etc. They are not sitting for hours. They (it's always men and my office is 80% women) believe we should be on our hands and knees scrubbing the office with a tooth brush in down time. Literally. That's their solution to a non existent problem. Hang up the phone and mop until it rings again.

Um... What?

If your work overall is good and they're happy, I wouldn't worry.

My old boss (the one I was with for three years who I have spoken about a lot on here) used to lock his door and look at porn sites ALL THE TIME. He'd often leave it up on the computer. He lived in the same building we worked in, so I never understood why he didn't just go home???????

Once I went into his office when he wasn't there to leave something on his desk, and something like "teen muscle men" was on his computer and I RACED BACK TO MY DESK SO FAST. My friend/coworker took one look at me and goes, "................Lemme guess!"

Ughhh. I feel icky just remembering that.

So, yeah, even the owner of the company does it.
I think if he had a problem with it he would probably have said something at the time. He must know that some times are quieter than others and if you are usually bending over backwards to do what needs to be done he'll know that too. It's not like you were doing it when there was work to be done.

I'm lucky in that there's no-one around to catch us out, just four staff all doing the same thing - mainly whatever we can to stay awake (like fifi). I must admit I'll never go on the work computer to do internet stuff, I always take my own in as it is frowned upon to use the work one, but others use it and don't seem to worry. I think the managers turn a blind eye to us nightshifters to some extent.

3b in South Australia.
My old director never really cared how much time we spent online as long as we got our work done. The new one is cracking down on it though because she thinks the old lassez faire way made the staff produce crappy work (her words, not mine). It's the main reason I haven't been on here as much lately.

Thanks everyone! I've made up my mind to be much more careful at work because this is a really good job in many ways and I don't want to jeopardize it. Not worth it! However, I'll take heart from your responses and not feel that I'm about to be let go because of this one mistake.

One of the bad things about my job is that they have no compunction about letting people go without a minute's notice. A person walks in and is virtually strong-armed out. The entire rest of the staff finds that very unsettling.

I dink around on the computer all the time at work! And my boss is worse about it than me! Their philosophy is that as long as you're current and up to date with everything you need to do, check and see if anybody else needs help, then do whatever you want. You can read, surf the web, watch movies/TV shows on hulu or netflix, talk with other coworkers done with all their work, etc. It's AWESOME!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
I work in a very casual office. My facebook page, personal email accounts, ebay, and NC are always open all day every day. I do keep the sound turned off tho because I just never know what sort of thing can pop up.

But if I worked someplace where it was against the rules and the computers were monitored, I wouldn't do it.
