Homemade treats for furry family members

Like Tree18Likes

Do you make treats, cookies, or homemade food for your furry family members? I found this recipe a few weeks ago and made a batch for Bella. Holy smokes, she absolutely loves this! She can only eat half of one at a time so I put the remainder in a plastic bag in the freezer and she has the second portion later.

If your dog doesn't have issues with low fat yogurt, Bella highly recommends these Peanut Butter Frozen Treats for dogs

What a great idea for a thread! I can't say I exactly make recipes for my feline family members (I'd love to learn some though!), but I can say that when there's a rotisserie chicken in the house, they are getting a slice or two (or else! Lol).
Medium/coarse, low porosity, dense, mix of 3s

Trying out steaming!
Oh, Rosie and Heidi would sure like to try that!

Like hootenanny, they always get some rotissarie chicken, and most nights, they get meat scraps, unless it's too spicy.

Ooh, my girls would love those, especially Zoe. She freaks out over both bananas and peanut butter. Funny, one of the dog pictures under the recipe looks just like Sheba.

I think cooking for our furry pets is great!

No furry family members right now, but when I was younger we use to always cook for our dogs. My favorite dog Ulysees loved to eat beef risotto.
Normal porosity
Low density (I think?)
Normal elasticity

For X-mas a co-worker gave me a doggie bone cookie cutter and a recipe for peanut butter biscuits. I haven't made them yet. I'll pass along the recipe a little later.

I've tried a couple of different recipes. He likes them but is not crazy about them. Without perservatives, they go back too quickly for one small dog.
My dogs prefer MEAT in it's purest form as treats. They're not crazy about peanut butter. Cheese is OK, but meat is better. They think fruit is for monkeys and veggies are for cows. MEAT is where it's at for my dogs.

I would like to get a food dehydrator so I can make their very favorite treat a little cheaper...dehydrated LIVER!
Hamster popsicles!

No?

Just an idea...

My dog loves most fruits and vegetables. She was levitating in the kitchen last night while I was slicing cucumbers!

Finlay LOVES cucumbers! and carrots if they have Ranch or Peanut butter

I love this recipe for him, I think he'll like it.

ETA - he loves beef baby food, too - so am thinking I can mix that up with the yogurt and freeze for him

Those frozen pb banana pops look great. And probably much healthier than store-bought treats!

My girl will eat anything... but she especially adores bananas, carrots, raw zuchinni, and apples. She just loves her fruits and veggies!

This is a great dog biscuit recipe-it has pumpkin in it which is good for sensitive stomachs (like Casey )

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

1/2 cup water (add more later if required)
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs
3 tbs peanut butter
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup oats

Blend wet ingredients. Whisk dry ingredients and mix into wet mixture to form a ball of dough. Roll out and shape. Put onto non-stick lightly greased cookie tray. Cook 20 minutes at 400F. Turn off oven and allow the biscuits to cool in oven until crisp and hard. Store in airtight container.

I think my co-worker bought it at Target. It was $1.

I haven't made them yet, but I totally intend to for Dexty who is the only one that can eat them. Nini is an allergy girl and can't have the oats.

When I had dogs, I often made them dog treats. I still have the bone shaped cookie cutter and make them for other people's dogs occasionally.
They were fun to make and the dogs loved them.

It's a little too cold right now for my dogs to get excited about frozen treats... But I'm so going to use that recipe this summer! They will go bananas for them (pun intended obviously).
