There is controversy over the choice of model for this editorial. 'African Queen' editorial uses white model- Simply Chic - MSN Living

I don't think they chose wisely.

It's not even that they chose a white model (sadly not surprising), but they went and put her in brown face. Why? Why couldn't they be bothered to just find a black woman at that point?

I mean a white girl with African Queen heading the editorial would have been legitimate, yes. But I would have rolled my eyes sooo hard. Because ugh.

i read the first two comments and walked away.

we all know white people are in africa how can we forget?

when i read the title, i thought ok she could still be africa, until i saw the pic! At first i thought, "wait, i thought they said they picked a white model?" then i realized, they gave that girl black face!! yes, to me its black face! when you apply make up to white skin to make it appear darker then put them on the cover of afriace queen magazine, that is the same as black face!

if she was am african with her regular color it would be fine imo. but she is not african, so strike one! and they gave her brown face?!?!?!? strike 2!!!

That is silly/stupid. Why couldn't they hire a black model for this job?

As for the article comments. Yes, there are white people in Africa who've lived there for generations. But this photo is clearly meant to depict a black African woman. If they wanted to portray a white African woman, they wouldn't have used makeup to make her skin dark.

I couldn't take it after the first few comments. SMDH at all the clueless people there still are in the world. The fact that they didn't bother to use a black model is enough of an insult to me.

When i hear african queen, i think of Queen Nzingha and Queen Amina. They were warrior queens!!!
