Default So if these are SOCIAL websites....

why dont we SOCIALIZE?? i mean, like REALLY form friendships? i feel like now, more then ever before we have more connective technology but it feels like we are so socially disconnected from one another. or is it just me? why does it seem we only talk on the web and not face to face anymore?

I think it just depends on the person. I've gained many friends from using social sites and have ended up meeting 85% of them in person and talk to them on the regular. It also comes in handy with me being able to keep in touch with my friends I grew up with who I don't live near or we have such different schedules that we don't get to see each other as often as we'd like, so it's what you make of it.

It's all in what you want to get out of it, imo. I use social websites as a tool for my relationships, whether it's meeting people exclusively on-line who I might have something in common with; like here or a turtle owners forum I belong to. I get advice, share stories and connect intellectually and personality-wise.

I use Facebook to keep up with my kids who no longer live at home and other family members. I also have reconnected with a dear friend from elementary/jr high on Facebook. We live an hour apart now and we meet one Saturday a month and spend the day together just us, no kids, no spouses.

On-line sites have the ease of anomynity and no commitment. You can hang out as long as you like and then slip away quietly with no excuses or awkward avoidances. I fall off the grid here every so often because of health issues or time allowances or phases of the moon.

If you are wanting to meet people that you will follow-up with and meet person-to-person, nc.com isn't the ideal solution. There are websites that are specifically aimed at that goal. You could also look into joining into community activities, clubs, and groups that interest you. We like you here too

I have many friends from social sites.

I have also met quite a few curlies when traveling elsewhere.

I think it definitely varies for one person or another, but as I am typically happy to be a hermit, I actually get out more socially because I feel motivated to do so to meet people.

Not really following what you mean?

Do you mean why aren't we socializing on the sites? Or in person?

Why would you think social media websites would make ppl interact more in person?

And are you including NC into the "social websites?" I think a lot of us have met other boardies inperson but we live all over and just having curly hair doesn't exactly guarantee a strong bond. LOL

I guess it's all socialization of one type or another.
