Phrases we never hear anymore because changing technology has made them obsolete

Film at 11.

Can you think of others?

Fifi.G 03-05-2013 05:50 PM

Not really a phrase but a standard sentence uttered in most libraries, for many years.

I'm going to check the card catalog.

SunshineGrrl 03-05-2013 05:53 PM

VHS or Betamax. I think we still have our Betamax in the basement somewhere.

Fifi.G 03-05-2013 05:59 PM

I still have a VHS and video tapes. Oh yes, I do.

Radio stations no longer "spin the tracks".

Laura Lee 03-05-2013 06:13 PM

I think "I'll page him" is out of use except in some hospitals.

CurlyCutie1394 03-05-2013 06:14 PM

"Hit me up on my two-way"

curlyarca 03-05-2013 06:16 PM

Unless it's a hobby: getting film developed.

The New Black 03-05-2013 06:21 PM

Can I borrow a quarter for the pay phone?

Shoot! I was coming back in to mention this.

I was thinking about how I slightly missed not having a cell phone the other day. If you were out somewhere a person had to come get you, or call the business/establishment you were at and have you paged (or screamed for). You knew it was something important. No 25 texts about nothing while you are trying to eat.

longlivecurls 03-05-2013 06:40 PM

"Be kind and rewind" :) when you would rent VHS and not DVDs.

Oh, I didn't mean VHS was obsolete, because I definitely have one and have video tapes, but the VHS vs Betamax convo at the video store.

Come to think of it, "Video Store" is probably pretty much obsolete now.

Related: "drop a dime" on someone.

Ever tried to FIND a payphone lately? Yeah...what a joke. At least, where I'm at.

curlyarca 03-05-2013 06:46 PM

We have oneat my workplace. And it takes actual coins, not a card. I want to make a call from it one day just to say I did.

wavycurly40+ 03-05-2013 06:48 PM

My phone is ringing off the hook.

You sound like a broken record.

The cashier is ringing up my groceries.

We passed one once when my baby sister and I were walking in Chicago and she was like "Omg! A pay phone! Can I use it??"

She also doesn't know how to work a VCR.

Obsolete things to say: "blah blah blah floppy disc"

wavycurly40+ 03-05-2013 06:51 PM

And while I'm thinking of it, does anybody really "dial" a phone anymore?

Or "hang up", really.

It is basically obsolete. I have kept mine foe those under the radar cult classics that have not been released in other formats, and home videos.

Speaking of home entertainment... I have it on LaserDisc!
Attachment 32500 The flying saucers of movies.

Unless you happen to have a rotary phone, no one is dialing.

You better believe it, baby! Rotary all the way!

Wait, is that really "dialing"? Is dialing more like...a telephone switch operator dialing the number for you?
