USA/Canada LD relationship

So, I have sort of entered myself into this budding long distance romance.
It's still in the super early stages, but I'm really into him and vise versa. I have done a LDR before, and it's not so much the distance that makes me nervous, it's the fact that I'm in Canada and he's in the US. I feel like borders and visas and restrictions are quite tight for both of these countries and I'm nervous about crossing the border to see him so often.

Time wise, he's only a couple of hours away so that's not the issue, it's the fact that I'll be crossing the border so often that makes me nervous. This month alone there are three weekends where it makes more sense for me to go there, but I feel like they're going to give me some serious side eye about crossing back and forth that often.

Does anyone have any experience in this department?

i have lots of experience with LDRs with Americans, but none within driving distance.

just make sure you're not the one doing ALL the travelling!

p.s. apply for a Nexus card asap.

Yup. DH and I dated for 5 years in an LDR. I lived in upstate NY and he lived in Toronto so about a 5 hour drive.

This was pre 9-11 but I really don't think that land border crossings have changed much. In fact with a Nexxus pass you can cross quite quickly. I even have friends who live on one side of the border and work on the other with no problems.

But my question would be what is your end game? Would you be willing to immigrate to the US? Would he move here?

Mad scientist I was hoping to hear from you! I was pretty sure you were in a dual situation for some time.

I wasn't sure that I was eligible for a Nexus considering that my only "tie" is this new relationship, not work or anything like that. I'll have to look into it.

It's still so early, so we haven't talked end game really, although I know from experience that in a LDR you have to considerit MUCH sooner than a "regular" relationship. I'm not as worried about it, because I'd absolutely move. My plan (since childhood!) has always been to live there, and if I finish my degree at school I would be able to get a job there without much issue (nursing). I could potentially even finish my degree at the school in his state, so that's an option if it were to happen sooner. I have never seen myself in my city for the long term so I'm totally open. He has said during one conversation "I'm wiling to make sacrifices for love, and living somewhere else is one of those that I wouldn't have an issue with." so I think we are both pretty open. It's harder for him because he is US air force, so he doesn't have a ton of say where he ends up until his contract is over.

Thank you very much for both of your responses!

i know people at work who have Nexxus cards and the only reason for them is cross-border shopping!
