GAH help my face!!

Like Tree2Likes

I have NEVER in my life had acne, maybe a zit here or there but never acne. I went off my BC pill in August of last year, and starting n December my face started to be really bad. The last couple of weeks it has been UNBEARABLE.
I feel like I've tried everything - organic, honey masks, tea tree oil, proactiv, regular drug store face wash that I used to use all the time, coconut oil, toothpaste, steams. NOTHING. It's getting worse. It's like a few large red pimples, and some smaller ones around.
I'm so frustrated/embarrassed/self conscious.

Any experience here would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you've done what you can on your own, I think it's time to see a dermatologist.

Not washing my face
I swear this cleared up my skin, for the days I know I won't go out I dnt come near my face , and for other days is just use water or organic wipes.
Just let ur natural oils kick in and solve the problem.
I've been having problems with acne in the last couple of years too (even though, like you, I never had acne problems as a teenager). I feel like my Clarisonic has helped. I still get the occasional pimple but my skin has cleared up a lot.
In search of a lost signature...
I got some peels from MUAC and they seen to be helping mine.
Here are some general tips I've picked up, some of them on these boards, that really have helped me.

1. Be consistent. A product isn't going to make a difference with one use, or even a couple uses. Zits don't actually develop over night. It takes time to develop, and it takes time to clear them up.

2. Don't do anything that damages the skin barrier. So, no harsh scrubs or anything. I know they're tempting, but they're harmful.

3. Don't do anything that really dries out your skin--your face should never have that tight feeling. EVER. If it's dry it'll overproduce oil to compensate and make you break out even more. It's a vicious cycle that so many acne products are SO drying.

4. Pay attention to things that aren't skin-deep. How's your diet? How much water do you drink?

5. Make sure you wash your face BEFORE you exercise/sweat if you're wearing any makeup. And also immediately after, regardless of what's on your face. This is just one of the reasons you need some super gentle non-drying face wash...you can't use the harsh stuff this often!

6. There's really only a few ingredients in any acne products. Salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide are in most drug store brands. You can also find tea tree oil, sulfur, and glycolic acid, more often in more upscale brands. So don't just go buying products all willy-nilly...you don't need 10 different salicylic acid products!

I've been down this road and I hate to say that the only thing that helped my adult acne was the pill. I know you said you just went off of it.
I had zero luck with my dermatologist. He gave me antibiotics, which worked great at first and then my skin was ten times worse. Antibiotics kill off he bad bacteria AND the good, so then the bad can take over. :/

This may not matter, but I'm curious what type of bc were you on?

I was on Yaz last year (2 years ago?) and being on it wasn't working but going off if it was horrible. The after effects of it leaving my system lasted about a year and it sucked. My face was definitely a huge mess.

It eventually calmed down, but I had good luck with Ponds cold cream at night, rinsing w water in the morning, Dove soap for sensitive skin in the shower, and just a little vitamin E oil on the dry spots and under my eyes.

Thanks everyone, I'm at my wits end.

iroc, I was on Yasmin. I have also noticed that I sweat WAY more than I ever did now that I'm off of it. Like after 20 minutes of wearing a shirt I'll have wet marks under my arms and this is a girl who barely even sweat at the gym before. Is pretty clear that my body is in an adjustment period, and it scares me to see what the pill had done to my body! It didn't even click for me that it was because of the pill until about two weeks ago when I started thinking "I should go back on the pill, maybe that'll help." Lol, duh!

The first 2 or 3 months I was on it was really great, and I lost 10lbs - but after that it just got worse. I gained that weight back, plus some, and my face was broken out, my vagina itched constantly. Seriously, sorry about the tmi, but it felt like I had a chronic yeast infection, and I had debilitating migraines constantly. Oh, and I practically hemorrhaged at my period. If you google it you'll actually find message boards and support groups for women coming off this pill. Its bad.

Around 7 months after you stopped you should even out.

Again, sorry bout the nasty info.

There is no info too nasty for this forum Cori!! Ha.

Yea I started googling, and found that I was not alone in my experience with that brand. Ugh. I had great results in other ways while on it. No crazy mood swings, better periods. I had tried other pills before it with really bad experiences. Particularly Alesse, I turned into crazy devil woman. My BF at the time was like "if you keep up with this attitude, you won't have anyone around TO have sex with." LOL. He was right, though.
I had headaches the first 2-3 weeks coming off of it, and then was fine so I though, wow, that was easy! I also noticed my libido went WAY up and I was far more laid back and pleasant. Then about three months later the outbreaks started, a month after that the crazy sweating. Now with a new BF in the picture, I want some kind of BC again, but I'm terrified to go back on the pill! Did y find another brand that has been better for you?

No, I have horrible reactions to bc. Lo Ovral made my skin glow, but I was such an insane person. Once I punched my (ex) boyfriend in the head and jumped out of a moving car! Another one made me constantly hungry and I gained like 40 lbs. Even progesterone only pills made me nuts.

I had an iud put in, but I got the copper one bc I do so horribly on hormones. But my body didn't respond well and I had reactions with that as well.

My last resort was a diaphragm. It toom some convincing to my gyn bc they're so old fashioned. She kept trying to push other methods.

But seriously the diaphragm is the best bc EVER for me. I LOVE it. The fitting process was a little awkward. It took a couple of tries to get used to inserting it but now its super easy. I put it in if I plan on 'starting something', otherwise I may have to do a little 'hang on a second, lemme put my thing in' lol. Your supposed to use it w a spermicide, but that stuff is like acid to my cervix. *shudder*. Unless its a few days before or after my period, we use withdrawal too to add extra protection. Its good to use during your period too bc it catches the mess.

I can relate to the crazy person thing! I freaked on my ex in a movie store for touching my arm (in a loving manner) and then literally sat on the floor IN THE STORE crying in the fetal. #nutso.

Condoms for me are like spermicide for you. I have a latex allergy, and I'll definitely use them in a pinch, but in a committed relationship I prefer to not use them. The latex free ones are like winter mittens, I swear.
I'll talk to my doc about the diaphragm, thanks for the tips!
I am 8 months pill free, so I'm hoping that this current bad breakout is the worst one, and that I'll notice some changes after this. I'm going to stick with a honey/cinnamon/baking soda mask daily and hope that helps calm my skin a bit. It's such a catch 22 because now I've started wearing foundation and concealer which I've never needed, to cover the acne, and I feel like I need to work harder to get the makeup off which might damage the skin further. I also have no luck with powder products because my skin is dry as it is.

I think I have all of the above problems as well.

Noxzema is like my cure all. A lot of people are totally against it bc of the waxy feeling it leaves, but it always clears up my skin when it freaks out and its awesome to shave with.

I know when I was post bc I had half a dozen skin products in my bathroom trying to find what would work.

Do not let coconut oil touch your skin. I started using it for a while after a long stretch of clear skin and it was a disaster. I can use other oils, like jojoba, but not coconut.

Diet has been the big thing that keeps most of my acne under control, but for many people it makes no difference.

For skincare I use a really gentle cleanser--and if I don't wear makeup that day, I just use water. PSF's BHA solution is great for keeping my pores clear.
Eres o te haces?
Coconut oil is comedogenic. Don't use it on your face. It'll make things worse

Have you tried benzoyl peroxide? Is that what it's called? Lol

Btw, if its hormonal, no product is going to fix you, so I would just use a very gentle cleanser and a light moisturizer that you know doesn't break you out.

If you have a particularly evil zit, I'd suggest spot treating with a Neutrogena zit zapper cream. Either the regular or the rapid clear, either one says it clears in 8 hours, and it does. It works.
