Help me pick a necklace!

Like Tree8Likes

I'm already ordering some magnesium tablets after reading the symptoms of magnesium deficiency (thank you, Crimsonshedemon), so I figured I'd take this opportunity to put something fun in my Amazon cart for once! I love cameo necklaces and I'm finally gonna get one, but I'm having trouble deciding which one. Price can't be a factor because they're all cheap, lol. Help me consider my options?

I'm thinking about getting this one in either amethyst or black. Black would probably be more universal and more like the real deal, but I already have a black and silver-tone necklace and that purple looks so pretty! I suspect I'm being biased against the lady in the black's apparent lack of nose in the picture, though. That probably isn't the case for all of them. I would also like the clear, but it seems to have a shiny layer over the cameo itself. Do not want. I think I've been looking at them for too long, because I can no longer tell if the crystals on the bottom are fabulous or if I'd rather they surrounded the cameo or were gone completely. If I were to order one of these, I'd get to return it for free, which is really nice.

The other one I'm considering is this. It's framed all the way around, but I can't quite tell from the pictures if the crystals and dark metal around it look "cheap." Like, more so, lol. They definitely do in the last one. The look of the cameo itself is lovely and ethereal and I love the color but it also seems less iconically Victorian to me, which I'm not sure makes sense, due to the flowers taking up so much of the bottom. I could not return this one for free.

What do you think, ladies? Which would you buy?
OMG, LOOK!!

...It's a siggie.
Purple!!! I guess it's called amethyst

The lack of nose bothers me too on the black one. But even if she had a nose, I'd still prefer the amethyst one.
i say blue or purple.

i like the secone one alot too, but if the crystals look cheap in real life, it wont look as nice. make sense?
I do not know. I am stuck. I would like classic black better in the first one, and I like the cameo itself, but I like the framing of the 2nd. I also like the color of the 2nd one better, but it said there might be variations in stone color in the frame which is not good. Dang it, Sasp!! I am 50/50.

PS- Have you looked in antique shops or flea mkts? I have seen beautiful cameo necklaces at both, that were not too expensive.

I love cameo. I love antique shops. This thread got me a little excited.

Of the first selection I like the black better than the amethyst.

But overall I like the second selection. I think it actually looks more vintage than the first group, and there are less crystals which I would choose bc, lets face it, crystals fall out.

I also prefer the lack of dangling crystals on the second as opposed to the large amount on the first.

That would just be my preference.

Beautiful necklaces.

I love the color of the purple one, but I really prefer the design and the actual cameo of the 2nd one. I love her hair and the flowers. She seems like a pretty little fairy of the woods.

I love the 2nd one and may buy it for myself.
I like the first one more! I think the purple or blue would look best.

LMAO!! Of course thelio found zombie cameos.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Let's see if I can use it to actually make a decision.

Hmmm...since the second one looks lighter in the picture where it has something behind it, the colors in the first set may be off, too. The purple being lighter in person would be a definite minus. Thelio, your point about the crystals does make sense - but then it might make sense for the first ones, too, lol! And iroc, that's a really good point about crystals falling out. Just reading that makes me flash back to these shoes I wore to Homecoming once...those rhinestones got tired of hanging out with me real fast. And although I totally want to marry that purple, I do prefer the look of the frame all around as well and I think I'm leaning toward a more classic cameo color.

Ooh, thanks for pointing out where it said the color may vary, Fifi! I totally missed that. Hm...that looks like it ought to mean that the pictures just look different due to different computer display settings, but they listed the color as "various gray" - WTH does that mean?? I'd be cool with it being a bit lighter or darker than it appears in the pictures, but I wouldn't like to receive a warm grey cameo.

Side note: I always check for cameos in the jewelry at thrift shops, but I've never been to an actual antique shop. Always wanted to, though, since I've always been obsessed with old pretty things. I just googled and I found a place nearby called MISS KITTY'S ANTIQUES. Oh my word, it's so Gilmore Girls. I am definitely buying one of these cameos, but I also have to go to this store now. Dang, why is it too late to call my friend and beg her to go with me??

Okay, I think I'm actually beating this indecision. I'll get back online when I get home tomorrow and if I still feel like ordering the hopefully-not-warm-grey cameo then, the order shall be placed! Either way, I demand a decision of my silly brain. Can't get distracted by all the shinies or I'll never get to wear any. Thanks again for the help, ladies!

Hee, maybe a couple of us will be necklace buddies! It's not a shopping thread without some enabling, right?

Zombies are kewl!!

The first one has free returns for prime members, so if you dont like it you can always send it back. free shipping and returns always help me make those really tough life choices.

Grrr! My mind has been changed by the fact that if I order the grey cameo, I won't get free super saver shipping on the whole order, and I don't want to pay extra to ship the magnesium tablets. I really should've checked that in the first place, but in my defense, the grey cameo came up in the same search that was narrowed down to only necklaces that qualified for the free shipping. The amethyst cameo it is - with free returns to make it nice and easy for me to change my mind and go for the grey one later if it doesn't suit my fancy in person.

Now I just have to wait for it to get here. *twiddles thumbs*

Etsy.

Just a suggestion!

Hope you love the one you ordered.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

You'll have to check out that shop, and keep your eyes open craft fairs that have jewelers. You can find them in the neatest places. I have a small cameo pendant. It is oval, and is surrounded by gold. It was my moms, and I constantly admired it. She gave it to me when I turned 18. I also picked up a sliver cameo bracelet at a craft fair several years ago.

You really can find some beauties in unexpected places.

*Also* I second Springy. I was trying to remember the name of a Irish Jeweler who makes (or maybe used to make) amazing Victorian replicas, on the cheap, and came across some beautiful Etsy pics.

Vitaminshoppe offers free shipping over 25$ Plus $ back thru extrabux. They offer the right type of magnesium. Please make sure you are getting a good brand with the right type of mag. Some put in fillers that alter absorption even if it's a good form of mag.

If you have any questions, please ask. It can be overwhelming.

Those cameos are lovely, Fifi! I would love to come across that kind of thing.

Oh Etsy, you are so full of pretty things. In fact, you are full of all the things. So very many things. I don't ever end up going there because I just browse forever, lol!

Crimson, thank you for the tip about Vitaminshoppe. I'll keep them in mind for my next mag order. And you're right about it being overwhelming to shop for the supplements! I ended up going with these, which say they contain "magnesium glycinate/lysinate chelate" that the bottle declares is "fully reacted" and unbuffered, which the reviews said meant there wasn't a less beneficial form of magnesium added as filler. Did I make a good choice?

Also, what is your opinion of crushing magnesium pills and adding them to water or something? I'm not sure just how big these are or if I'd want to do that, but various reviewers have commented on their size and lack of coating.

I hold water in my mouth then plop the pills in and swallow. Only way I can get things down.
There is also capsules, powder, pico ionic form that's 100% absorbable and other liquid forms available. Plus transdermal. So lots of options. I ordered mag malate powder for my kids since they dont like taking the huge tablets.
