Yard and Garden 2013

I'd love for y'all to share your yard and/or garden pictures!! :D I love, love seeing what everyone is up to in their yards and if anyone's thumb is as black as mine. So, please feel free to share your pictures here.

We finally got our raised bed ready for planting this afternoon by adding some compost. We put in four types of tomatoes: early girl, an heirloom I forget the name of, sungold yellow cherry tomatoes, and sweet 100's. We also planted patypan squash and strawberries which are both new to me in growing. We put in seeds for bush beans and snow peas so we've got to get a trellis built for those in the next couple weeks.

I also added some new plants to the yard and to the container my maple is in. Those are achillea 'pink grapefruit', silver mound, and curious orange monkey flower.

If these pictures are too large will y'all let me know? I know they're big, but on my screen they're not so large they make the thread go wonky, but not sure if that's the case for everyone else.

How cute is your yard/garden?! I love it.

Allegedly my parents are planning to build a bunch of raised garden beds this year, but we'll see if it happens... I'd really like for it to! I loved having a veggie garden a few years ago. If it does, I'll post pics! I'm not hopeful, though. :evil4:

My poor garden's not looking the best at the end of a long, hot summer but I'll take some pics at the weekend when I've (hopefully) tidied it up a bit. My veggie beds are almost empty as I refuse to put anything else in until I'm sure the hot weather has gone.

Just starting to get my raised veggie beds going.

Hubby just made and designed these wicking beds:

webbie, those are awesome!! I can't wait to see the progress of those planted. I'm always storing away ideas for when we get into our forever home and can actually put down roots and do things without thinking of having to move and leave it all behind.

webbie, could i hire your husband?

:D

We are still having snow and cold so no planting yet. But the perennials are coming up, some daffodils and snowdrops and periwinkle are blooming, the buds are showing on the trees, and some bugs are out, so at least it's starting to look like spring.
Last weekend was warm enough to clean my plants and landscaping, clean the porch and patio, and all the furniture is out and ready for sitting!

jeepy's nekkid piggies! Mine are snuggly wrapped in wool boot socks. What is spring? What's a garden? What's warm? For the love of all things sacred, what's warm???

We're finally getting some rain, a downpour overnight, but thankfully nothing we planted floated away. Hopefully everything is appreciating a good drink in their new homes.

Right now the only place we're really growing anything is in the arena since my horse is at the trainer's and that's where I'm doing my riding.

We have these great brick planters along the front of the house... and these rodent ground squirrel-ish things which eat any plants we put in no matter what we do. We'll be doing some indoor herb gardening, and maybe try to get some hanging planters for the backyard - we have chain link fence around the dogs, so it would be easy to hang planters from!

Some not very good pics. It was a bit warm this weekend so I didn't get much tidying done so these are just a couple of the neatest looking atm.

Almost empty veggie beds (with the sun shining so not very clear)

Veggie bed and plum tree in the background.

Front garden, trying to avoid a view of the very dead lawn. Sad that the only colour is DS1's car.

Still too early to plant veggies and such here, but at least spring has finally arrived and some of the posies are popping out.

Starmie 05-08-2013 07:48 AM

I just got back from the UK hoping for cooler weather here so I could plant some veggies, shrubs and the mountain of bulbs I have. No such luck, we're having a heatwave and it'll have to wait until the weekend. So annoying!

Mr B & I finished this project this past Sunday. The inner circle is gardenia bushes, the middle is barberry bushes, and the other edges are blue rug junipers which will spread in time and fill in that whole area. We're still trying to decide what to do in the very center. Possibilities include a small red Japanese maple, a birdbath, a combination birdbath/fountain, or some type of metal sculpture.

Lotsa, I took this one a couple of weeks ago - it's a little hazy though.

B-wavy 05-08-2013 07:08 PM

Thanks, springy!
